The Welland Canal (Linking Lake Erie to Lake Ontario)

The Welland Canal is the 43 km / 27 mile long section of the St. Lawrence Seaway that circumvents Niagara Falls and allows ships to travel between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. A series of eight ship locks take freighters up the elevation change of the Niagara Escarpment. Since its construction in 1824, the move toward automated control of various parts of the canal has left abandoned infrastructure all along its length. Here are a collection of shots, in no particular order, taken over the course of the last decade. They'll give you a peek at some of the abandonment visuals to be found along this route.

These are all awesome but my jaw dropped at that last one. I love the misty sunset (sunrise?) and the power lines rising up through the fog.

"Sorry, I didn't know I'm not supposed to be here," he said, knowing full well he wasn't supposed to be there.

This really takes me back. One of my first 'explores' was in the area, looking for the abandoned tunnel along part of the old canal bed. Killer set too!

Stunning Nautical set. The views and the feels are Wonderful. That rusted broken porthole is Beautiful. Love your photos because they are large as life, and they make me feel like i was there.
