I've modified flashlights for the purpose of sneaking.

I converted these flashlights for the purpose of urbex. These LED's generally used for indicator purposes are also extremely good for exploring abandoned structures in a quiet tactical manner. Having an output of only 200MCD the lime green (kingbright branded) LED's are good for not messing up night vision while at the same time giving you an idea of your surroundings. I honestly prefer lime green LED's over flashlights with "moonlight mode" or flashlights with red/ green or pure green LED's and even lights with incan bulbs and lenses. These type of lights in my opinion are still too bright. That and white light is generally bad for the night vision.

I chose LED's with a 20 degree viewing angle, (model No. WP7113SGC) for best optical compatibility with the coast G20's lens. It casts a very clean round beam with virtually no spillage.

The middle flashlight was a trial run using a diffused lime-green LED. It didn't work so well (and I didn't expect it to) I used it as a stop gap until the new LED's came in. It was so dim it was kindof pathetic.

I'd like to mention that the COAST G20 in stock form is an excellent flashlight. It is marketed as an inspection light but it can be used for so much more. It's low profile, has an excellent beam and is durable. I would recommend one to all of you.

Please keep in mind that the true output power of the LED is not shown on the image. Which is a tad overexposed. In practice I've notice that the light output doesn't even look very green reflecting off objects. The light is so dim that it looks basically black and white. Meaning this light barely activates photopic vision if at all

If your uncle Jack were stuck on a roof. And he asked for your help. Would you help your uncle Jack off?

I've done something similar before, but I'm not very "handy," so I just improvised with a colored flash gel over the head of the flashlight, and secured it with a rubberband.
If you go this route, however, don't use too powerful of a flashlight, because you could melt the plastic gel covering it. I know this from experience.

I used to have a couple of Princess Auto blue and red LED lights, which were decent for trying to remain undetected at night but the switches on them were just crap- any jarring motion would either turn the light off or put it into strobe mode. They discontinued this, and I modded another Princess Auto light with red LEDs, but again, the damn switch failed.

I lucked out and found these cool "Police grade" (probably a bit of an exxaggeration) flashlights at Canadian Tire for $17, regularly $60 or something.

They have the typical bright white LED which has an awesome range, but also a red mode which I've always liked for night exploring because it's not noticeable from outside the building. It also has UV for blood/urine detection but I've definitely seen better UV lights.
Not the finest flashlights in the world, but for $17 I'm very impressed, and the switches haven't acted up yet.

I have that exact light aswell! I really like it.Yeah the "UV" on that flashlight is really a lavender colored phosphored LED... Basically a knock off UV light. I grabbed it specifically because I liked the lavender colored LED's, you don't see em very often. But I rarely take it to abandonments because of the different modes on it... I've had bad experiences with multimode flashlights in abandoned buildings. I do however like it for general non sneaking uses. My preference is to carry a separate (small) light for every task. I generally carry some sort of white light for photos and the lime - green Coast G20 for a super dim sneak light.

One of my favorite flashlights is the RAYOVAC "Virtually indestructible" 600 lumen flashlight it has single handedly outlasted my more expensive flashlights by a huge margin.

My buddy bought one specifically for the purpose of testing its indestructibleness and it lived up to it... He beat it with a crow bar and hammer, ran it over with the truck, beat it against the antenna mast, brick wall and driveway and ran it through dirt... It is smashed to fuck but continues to light up. He literally beat it to the point where the battery tube was smashed and the batteries could no longer be removed and it still continued to light up. I don't exactly recall but I think he broke the hammer while trying to break the light with it. Lol.
