As the title suggests, I'm writing about urban exploration in general, but more specifically why people (myself included) find so much satisfaction in looking through reports and photos from other people's explorations. Is it historical interest, just living vicariously, the aesthetics of the places being explored, a second-hand sense of thrill, or to get inspiration to start exploring by oneself? And so on, and so on. My degree is in Heritage studies, which might bring certain things to mind - stone monuments, stately houses and such. But it can be much more than that - just about anything, really, that people think is worth having a look around in.

I've constructed a semi-structed questionnaire that I'm posting here and to one or two other related forums. It explores (no pun intended) the kinds of questions I've laid out above, and is intended to encourage fairly long, thoughtful answers. I've found these sorts of things can be more thought-provoking than you might think, so if it sounds interesting give it a look below, it'd be an amazing help.

Note: because of the way studies work these days, a consent form is required for me to actually be able to use the data. So if you do decide to have a look, please do fill in both. And there's more detail inside the two links, both to unthreatening google docs I promise!

The questionnaire: https://forms.gle/gAiKZNTwEk49ZSrA9

The consent form: https://forms.gle/15BZe3LDUMRqTBVj7

Cheers!

Right on, I just filled it out and hope others do the same. Looking forward to the final result.

They haven't signed on since around when they first posted. I'm guessing they had everything they were looking for from us. Maybe some day they'll come back and pay a visit.
