By any accounts, Goldfield Nevada is a living ghost town. At one time it was the largest town in Nevada. Wyatt Earp's brother Virgil was sheriff and ultimately died in Goldfield. The town had a major fire that wiped out a large section of the town, closely followed by a major flood that continued the carnage.
This mine produced some of the richest gold ore in history with assay values up to 2,800 ounces per ton. (Our mine is 10 tons to the ounce...) If you are going through Goldfield, stop at the visitor center and ask about the Florence Mine tour. It really is amazing!
