Protests/Riots: Pictures Not Politics

I'm curious to see how the protests/riots are going in other cities and how it's affecting the nearby buildings. Use this post to share your pictures from protests, riots, or looting, not your political opinion, please.

On Friday, I photographed the George Floyd Protest (which devolved into a riot) in Downtown Atlanta and got to see how bandos are made for the first time. I've never witnessed childbirth, but I guess this is the next best thing.

Sorry for the watermarks, I've already had problems with people trying to steal my images. I've tried to keep my pictures somewhat building-related.

There were about 10 police cruisers and a few police vans parked on the street. People completely destroyed them and set them one on fire. When the highly flammable tear gas was released, the fire spread to some of the other cars and vans. It was hard to tell the difference between bullets popping in the fire and actual gun shots.

The purple-ish cloud is tear gas. I'll let you guess which direction the wind decided to take it...

R.I.P to the CNN Center and any building within a half-mile radius. Everything from local bars, to the CNN Center, to the College Football Hall of Fame, were vandalized, looted, and then burned. Sometimes, not in that order either.

This is really just the tip of the iceberg of what happened on May 29th. If I could share videos somehow I could show the extreme amount of destruction, vandalism, and looting that took place.

There's already a George Floyd protest thread, although one not as "special" as yours and isn't as festooned with watermarks.

The other thread is for discussion. People photographing the protests should start their own threads.

Kudos on the watermarks. These are pretty good pictures. You might want to consider whether you want anybody's faces visible though.

This makes no sense given the picture-sharing in the other thread.

This makes no sense in any case, unless the idea is just to be contrarian.

Thanks for understanding. I really wish I could upload these everywhere without the watermarks, but we know how that goes.

Believe it or not, most people whose faces are visible in my photographs (most of the pictures with faces I withheld from posting) gave me permission to photograph and share them. Before I took pictures of individuals, like the ones at the of the street with their fists in the air, I asked for permission and asked if they wanted their faces to be included or not. I, of course, respected their wishes. I came with my face completely concealed so I know how others might be sensitive to the issue.

This thread is more specific and not for discussion; the other thread is for discussion and not really for pictures.

Also, I don't see the problem with trying to protect my work. I have already had people steal these images and don't what that happening again.

I'm having trouble focusing on the photos with all of the watermarks. Maybe you could try some kind of stagger pattern instead of the columns, or there are some discrete yet seemingly effective (mostly) transparent ones I've seen around the internet too. Maybe one big semi-transparent one? I do understand the reasoning for the abundance of watermarks, but for people that are a little ADD like me, that repetition covers over a significant portion of the photos and makes it really hard to concentrate on the subject(s) in the photo.
The photos are very good though! I have some I'm itching to edit from tonight, but the internet where I'm at currently is too slow to get much uploaded or edited until I get to my house, unfortunately.

Just remembered how Atlanta Police used drones to take pictures, facially ID, and record everyone at the protest. About 5 drones were swarming the riot at any given time. Not sure if anyone besides myself and the anarchists knew what was happening. Has anyone else heard of this happening in other cities?

I don't have any doubts that APD will try and prosecute the people who looted, destroyed property, burned police equipment, and committed some of the many acts of violence against police officers and others looting.

Here's a picture of a drone rising above the smoke:

And two more drone pictures, unwatermarked, for your viewing pleasure :

Thanks for the advice, I'll remember that if I need it again.

I'm sorry the watermarks are so distracting. If you or anyone else interested in seeing the unwatermarked pictures in a private flickr album, PM me. I'll work on making one with many more pictures from the protests and give the link to users who seem to respect urbex etiquette.

Here's kind of what I was talking about on the watermark.
I doubt I'm telling/showing you anything you don't already know and watermark styles are naturally subjective in nature, but I'll throw this out there anyways:

This makes no sense given the picture-sharing in the other thread.

If everyone were to share 11 photos per post in the other thread, it would be a nightmare to look through. People are best off using that thread for discussion and including pictures to illustrate something, but if they want to show off their work, a new thread is best.

Nope, I'm a genuine fan of hilariously intrusive watermarks. I was going to write more but was distracted by work.

I appreciate the advice. I'll use that style if I need to watermark before uploading again. If I have time, I may replace the original photos in the post with improved watermarks or just post the photos with improved watermarks in the comments.

Sounds like you're covered. And you're right about other forms of surveillance, visual or otherwise.

Also, their fault for not wearing masks.

Did a little research before going too. Learned that if the cops leave, you leave, or you face the tear gas (that saved me from getting really badly tear gassed). I also learned that if they have a face, they have a case. Even though I never broke a law, was violent, or destroyed property in any way, it's better safe than sorry.

Here's a thread I posted with some earlier this week when the first riot occurred in Madison.

EDIT: Someone reminded me that basic members can't see it because I put it in the "Other" subforum, so here's a Flickr link with the exact same photos plus a few more.
