Is the fisheye effect beneficial to these types of shots or just obnoxious. Shot on a Super Takumar 17mm fisheye lens attached to a A7ii

Fisheye sucks. Sorry not sorry.

Haha it’s cool, I try and use it sparingly. Comes in handy for interior shots though. Kind of gimmicky if over used for sure

It's really all up to opinion. I'm not a fan of it at all, but if you like it, it's your shot.

I'll second the dislike of the fish eye.

I think it can work, but it's a very specific style. In this case, I think it would be better if it were centered and level in the alley. I think fish-eye shots should generally be squared off in a fairly symmetrical shot for best results, which is do-able in this situation, the camera just isn't placed for it.

I was thinking that same thing as I looked back at the photo. I didn't notice it until after I uploaded here. It drives me a little nuts that the barrel distortion is so biased towards the left. It was when I first got the camera and my buddy gets quite skittish unless I capture him completely candidly so I have to get lucky on snaps with him so I just kind of hit the button randomly. I have a better centered shot that I'll upload when I get home.

I used to use a fisheye a ton, but I would try to always correct for the distortion. I didn't have a regular wide angle so I just made it work. There are a few shots I have where I really like the fisheye effect though. It's certainly cool to have but I find myself using it less and less as my skills improve.

I wound up with a regular 28mm wide angle that has caused me to use it less. It's still fun to get out every once and a while. Side note, how the heck to I safely clean my sensor?

Bit of a late reply but I clean my sensor before every shoot using an air puffer like this https://www.amazon...9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==. Make sure to actually point your sensor downwards so the dust comes out. If its still not gone, you can use a sensor cleaning swab to move the dust off... never use any liquids ofc.
