Howdy ho, this is my first official photo/location post to this community, so bare with me as I grow accustomed to the image posting features. Since this location has now been demolished, I'm going to be more open-tongue than would normally be with a site that's still open.
The Joe Louis Arena was the home of the Detroit Red Wings (as if I know anything about sportsball... pulling on rocks is so much simpler) until mid 2017 when it was put out of commission. Classic out-with-the-old, in-with-the-new situation; standing for 38 years can do that to a place. It could hold a commendable 20,000 people, and had an entertaining life.
In October of 2018, after over a year of sitting vacant, I took a job for an (authorized) scrapper who was looking to retrieve inaccessible memorabilia from the scoreboard still hanging below the second level deck. Specifically, he wanted the lettering and light fixtures and knew not the rope systems required to reach them. Enter the bored rock climber to save the day! I was given the golden key... permission! Muahaha
With my temporary employer in tow, I quickly retrieved the desired parts, and even snagged a fully motorized 360deg security camera for my own devious tinkering. After the dude gave me $200 (HE paid ME! Shit, I gotta do this more often), I politely asked if I could look around a bit longer before leaving. Unattended, I accessed the main (gutted) control/server room, the roof, and the main deck area. This is what I saw.

Wow that's sweet. The photo looking down from the control room is a cool perspective, not many people get to see that.

Shit arena, but they had some amazing runs there. Of course their first win there had to be against the Islanders, god forbid.

Such a sweet place. It's cool to see a more complete set from it, since I've only ever seen stuff from the main arena floor. That problem looked like a fun one lol. I actually saw this place nearing the end of it's demolition a few months ago. Quite the sight.

So many memories! Stevie, Russian 5, Datsyuk, Hank, Grind Line, Vernon & Osgood. As another commenter said... shit arena for sure, but 4 cups I believe. Great set.
