Been hearing that this big hospital ship is due in port here for a number of days now. So being a ship lover I started tracking her on myshiptracking.com. Weird thing is..... I see she's been going in circles for a few days now, along with 5 or 6 big cruise liners. All loitering off the coast and just going in circles..... Very strange behavior. I noticed a supply ship pull up alongside the MERCY yesterday, but she'd just left port in S.D. a few days ago. Maybe the ran out of toilet paper? or masks? What do some of you make of all this activity?

Maybe she was taking on sick people from the other ships.
I'll be fuckin' around in the mills |

The reported destination of USNS Mercy is Anchorage, Alaska. It shows the Maasdam enroute to San Diego from Honolulu. I thought that was no-no because of the Jones Act. It shows Disney Wonder sitting out there, underway. The Disney Wonder discharged her passengers in SD last week and left port with just the crew. That and the other cruise ships are probably waiting out the pandemic so they can get back to work.

Sounds like a quarantine.
Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in. |

When I look at the track of some of these ships, you can select up to a 5 day tracking, a few of them are just killing time out there. The news has been talking about the hospital ship being en route since last weekend. That's what prompted me to track it.... It does sound like a quarantine. Very weird.

They're just holding station until the virus blows over and they can back to work.
No use coming to port, paying dock fees and risk having your crew up and quit on you.

My brush with the merchant marine 30 years ago was enough. I didn't see daylight for 3 months. Although I will say that I'm really good at dealing with rusty bolts and pipe fittings.

We have an old Victory ship here in L.A. I've been aboard a few times 4 or 5, and I work aboard the USS IOWA.... The museums aboard the SS LANE VICTORY are equal to, if not better than the IOWA....

Love the IOWA... Guess I'm jaded due to all the scraping of old paint. Her museum is very cool. It's just that the LANE VICTORY has two large holds filled with really cool stuff, JEEPS, old large ship models, old photos, A hodge podge of old stuff. I'm a big fan of hodge podge.....

There are no fewer than 30 cruise ships either docked or at anchor in the Miami-Freeport-Bimini area.
