Graffiti doesn't scare me. Graffiti is good in that it means:
a) Other people have been here
b) Authority types don't come by often
and
c) The people who were here likely didn't get caught
When there's a place I'm trying for with NO graffiti, that's when I'm nervous.

True true. Never thought of it that way.
I should mention that this graffiti was in Gary, Indiana. If I had to guess, some of their gang members have symbols they recognize themselves with.
But then again. I am overthinking it XD

The only graffiti I encounter that's actually disheartening is racist/homophobic bullshit.
But, in one instance I did find my real name sprayed really big in ordinary handwriting, and that just didn't sit right! HOW DARE YOU!

Honestly not a not of graffiti bothers me. The first time I saw a pentagram spray painted with various other cultist symbols, I got nervous. But after the third time it just became an ordinary part of exploring. Along with anarchy symbols.

But the pristine ones are the best ones!
Graffiti-free locations are always my preference. Scrapper free is even better because they almost always precede the vandals. Running power is even better still - especially if the AC still works (bonus!).

Heh, yeah, Texas and Alabama - my experience with billboards was pretty uh, big there. Actually, nothing good happened in Alabama at all lol my partner and I got kicked out of a roadside attraction because his hoodie had THE Fuck WORD on it. Technically they said take it off or leave, but his shirt underneath was a Crass (band) tee that would've been notably blasphemous, so we left. Really, all of I-10 was a religious experience of sorts.

Reminds me a bit of a trip to Nashville I took about five years back. It wasn't quite as in your face as these, but had a similar vibe. They had entire stores dedicated to "patriotic" (Confederate) merchandise, including ceramic statues of both Union and Confederate soldiers. The kicker? All Confederate statues had guns, while all union statues had been systematically disarmed. You could even see the spots where they had broken the guns out of the statues' hands.
As somebody who had lived in Wisconsin (as north as it gets) for his whole life, it was a bit of a culture shock.

Wow! A few of these types of billboards can be seen in the more remote areas of Illinois and Ohio too. But they aren't as grouped together as the ones in Texas 😅
