Coal tower

Here is a classic location around my area. and one of my favorite places. photos in this post are from two different days months apart. one day I was camping (profile pic is a picture of my camp site) there on my way to another destination and the other day was just because I was bored and felt like exploring something. I free climbed up the conveyer shoot... and it involved a few instances of contortionist movements... one of which involved latching my leg around a rail spike and spinning 180 degrees! it was ridiculous but worth it.

I also have a ghost story on this one. I rarely encounter anything ghostly on my goings and I've been to a lot of different places over the years.... this is the only note-able exception.

While I was climbing up the conveyor shoot I heard boot's crushing gravel outside. and the sounds of something being pushed or pulled. I froze about a quarter way up the shoot in response to this sound to observe because I was a tad nervous... the noise stopped at the doorway. I hung there for a minute or two making sure whatever it was, was done and then I continued up the shoot. when I finally got to the top I was taking pictures and such and a minute after I had gotten fully up the shoot the road flare I lit finally puttered out. everything was going normally. I was sitting on some sort of perch (probably was meant for a motor) and all the sudden I heard a moaning kind of scream like sound coming from the bottom of the shoot. it sounded like the voices in the menu soundtrack of halo combat evolved except non-musical and creepy. at this point hair on my neck stood up and I was definitely more alert of my surroundings, there was no wind, no critters in Michigan that make that noise... WTF. that's pretty much it. I stuck around for an hour or two after that and then climbed down no issue. I kind of left at jogging pace because I was a tad spooked lmaooo.

The red light is a road flare. I usually carry 4 of them on me. yes I've been pulled over by cops before and they don't care. I like them because they don't require batteries. good for structures made of non flammable materials with ample ventilation.

If your uncle Jack were stuck on a roof. And he asked for your help. Would you help your uncle Jack off?

Cool pics. There's one right downtown here that's like a local landmark. Doesn't look interesting to explore, I just want the satisfaction and accomplishment of climbing it. This post just gave me some inspiration to go and try it again.
