Hello again y'all! I hope everyone is well with everything virus related going on right now. This is my second post on here, much thanks to everyone that wrote on my first post with kind words and encouragement! So here comes the famous hotel in the H. These pictures are from December 2017. At this time in my life, I had lost most everything due to Hurricane Harvey, and I had yet to buy my Nikon, so these pics are brought to you by my trash LG K10 and my SO's Samsung Galaxy S9. Armed with these phones and a flashlight, I also brought along a horrible ear infection that left me with little to no hearing in one ear for two weeks!!! Distracted by my ear + no friends interested in abandonments + didn’t know this website existed yet = not alot of pictures & the ones we did take are trash . It was all about the experience, not taking pictures every turn I made, so as the (self-proclaimed) great story teller that I am, for lack of pictures, I give you my experience. Screenshot_20200316-141049_Photos by JA, on Flickr Screenshot_20200316-141100_Photos~2 by JA, on Flickr While I'm not a worrisome/nervous explorer, it was so unnerving to creep around this place, trying my damnedest to listen out for the sounds of other people, but not being able to tell where sounds were coming from. Honestly, I was clinging on to SO like a little bitch because I was so disoriented. Someone in another thread asked how many flights it is...if you count on the picture it looks like 22, but we aren't remembering that to be the number. There are numbers in the stairwell on each floor, and I remember 30 something, 37 sticks out to me, while SO is saying he thought it went past 40. This is also two years ago so we might be totally wrong. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Saw 2 camp out areas, one on the ground floor where we couldn't tell if someone was there or not, but there were some candles lit so we assumed so, and proceeded to rush the hell away from there ASAP. The other was not occupied, and pretty weird(no pic but I doodled a little something to give y’all an idea). Heres the pool before we start going up a lot of stairs: 20171217_133558 by JA, on Flickr 20171217_133540 by JA, on Flickr Screenshot_20200316-132419_Photos by JA, on Flickr As we worked our way up, we poked our heads in on each floor, where about half way up, we spotted a piece of plywood blocking the view in between the elevator’s shafts and a tent behind it. Crudely doodled here: white is plywood, red is top of tent. Blue star explained later. Screenshot_20200316-132259_Photos~2 by JA, on Flickr We listened for a minute (he listened, I said for the 100th time "omg I can’t hear shit") and we decided to walk around the perimeter of that floor so we can find out if we are alone or not since we are halfway up this place. As we got around to the other side, there was no wood blocking the view, tent was open and no one there, so we walked up to it, where it was discovered someone had put wood inside the elevator shaft to make a floor. There were usual things, clothing, bottles, but to think someone would actually walk, much less SLEEP in this elevator shaft was crazy! The blue star is the shaft where the wood was put down.
Heres the same pic not cropped or doodled on. 20171217_140501 by JA, on Flickr 20171217_134423 by JA, on Flickr ^^^Only tag that was worth a shit.^^^ 20171217_134404 by JA, on Flickr ^^^almost to the top!^^^
Got up all the stairs, the little shack looking building at the top is for the elevator’s, very dark in there. Covered in graff, as was the stairwell. We stayed up there for a minute, just looking at the buildings trying to take good pics. Would’ve been great to have my cam with long lenses! Or maybe not as it was overcast and foggy. 20171217_135216 by JA, on Flickr 20171217_135135 by JA, on Flickr 20171217_135214 by JA, on Flickr 20171217_134909 by JA, on Flickr 20171217_135353 by JA, on Flickr 20171217_134039 by JA, on Flickr 938402635 by JA, on Flickr
So that’s that, I know I’m long winded guys, but hopefully we can get back out there and I can take some sweet pics that don’t need so much commentary!
20171217_192412 by JA, on Flickr Unrelated to exploring...go ahead and hate on me for this, but I had forgotten this happened on the same day as the hotel till I went back to get the pics! Two days before our explore, SO was going to paint the brake calipers on the truck, got front left done, was going to paint rear left, so he loosened up the lug nuts….got distracted, didn’t have enough time to paint the rear left, moved on with the day. We are driving down (insert highway here) and I fall asleep. Next thing I know, he’s at my door waking me up and says, “You are not going to believe this…” I get out, look at this sight... I’m still half asleep, staring at this hub thinking WTF am I looking at…. what’s the big deal, put a spare on! It finally registers that most of the studs are fucking sawed off. The tire had flown off going 70 MPH, truck slammed on the ground, and I didn’t wake up because I sleep like the dead. SO still hates himself for doing that to his baby, we still have only 1 red caliper, and he is currently hating me a little for putting this pic on here.

Nice explore looks like fun. But; why paint the calipers? Youre lucky Ive seen accidents where a wheel came off the vehicle rolled and or got hit by a 70mph semi truck. Count that as youre blessing for the day!

I know people who fell asleep while driving and never woke up...
Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in. | |
Yeah. Screwing with brakes is a really bad idea. You could have both been killed, and/or injured/killed someone else.

Because if you have a red car it goes faster, right? So if you have red calipers it stops the vehicle faster.... lmao kidding. Because red calipers look cool I guess? I had a 2008 VW GTI and it came with stock red calipers, always loved that. We have a white Ram, with a black grille, blacked out wheels etc. and he wanted red calipers. He feels really bad about it, he told me, "really you're gonna put that on the post???" He would like to forget it ever happened. We mostly pretend it didn't happen

Yes we were very lucky this day. He does all the work on his vehicles and this was the one time he messed up. Trust me, this topic can't be brought up without him kicking himself in the ass over and over. The next time he replaced his pads, he went around three times to make sure the lug nuts were tight as hell.

Im not making fun of your hubby just don't understand trying for the rally car / Brembo brake caliper look on a Dodge truck, you can buy high performance 4 piston calipers, probably red or some color etc for the truck but I guess a can of Krylon is cheaper LOL ! Anyway lesson learned glad youre not hurt.

Great story and awesome shots! That's certainly bizarre about the elevator shaft floored with wood...talk about falling asleep fast 😲! Cool set in general; I really like that pool and the rooftop shots. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks! That camp out was probably 15 stories up, so it would've been a long fall down! Thankfully we didn't run into anyone in there.

This place was one of my first "big" abandonments, before the walls were taken off. Also I may or may not have used this as a place to test my vertical ropework recently
Let me know if y'all are ever in town again. Don't have many folks to explore with over here.

Interesting write-up, thank you for sharing! You obviously put some time into this and it shows. I hope you’ve managed to rebuild some of what you lost during Harvey. I know a lot of people that were totally devastated, both psychologically and financially from that tragedy. Stay safe, stay healthy, and welcome to UER! DA

That’s incredible! I must say, despite having explored with you many times now, you still manage to surprise me. Edit: I decided to combine separate posts in the interest of saving space.

I never realized that because I'm always looking up! Being from a small town where the tallest structures are pine trees, I cannot get enough of the tall buildings downtown!

Thanks Dee! I've seen many of your posts over the last two years, thank YOU for sharing!! I said in my first post on here, (really trying not to sound like a creep, here goes nothing) no one from the south is safe from my stalker like reading! I love pictures as much as the next person, but I REALLY enjoy a story to go with, so I feel like its only fair to share exactly how my explore went down! And Harvey...yeah that royally sucked. I've done okay for myself by now, but yes it was very rough for a minute. Thanks for looking and commenting!

I would say "most people" don't look up. But many I know do. Depends on how you were raised or trained I reckon. Theres an old wives tale that deer never look up. Its probably true about half the time but if they hear something or smell something they will definitely look up. I learned to scan all the windows when I explored in downtown Dallas, lots of people "looking down" most of the time LOL
| |
I was in the parking lot 2 nights ago taking some cool night pictures of the exterior and could see about 3 people shinning flashlights out into the open. Was extremely obvious because it was around midnight and very dark. Guess someone called the cops on them. Probably 4 to 8 police cars showed up and inevitably coaxed them out. Didn't stick around to figure out what happened after that.
