Most effective Pepper Spray?

I'm just wandering. But in terms of pepper sprays, what is generally considered the best or most powerful? I'm planning on heading to some pretty dangerous places. So just in case...

When I was a probation officer we carried OC spray, but I never had to use it, so I’m not sure how it compares to other types of spray.

If a place is so dangerous you feel you need to arm yourself, best not to go.
This is pleasure not business.
With business you have no choice many times.
With pleasure you have a choice... every time.

I take a good oak walking stick over pepper spray every time.

Yeah true. It's a place in Gary, Indiana. Cops nickname the area "crackhead Hotel" since all the crackheads come out after 4:30 PM. I wanted to go hours before that. So in case I ran into one, I could at least have something to deter someone away with... maybe
Walking stick sounds like a really good alternative.

If there's squatters and such I would leave them be.
Personally I don't think it's worth the trouble.
It's different if you didn't have a clue they were there.

Run into a Vet trained in hand to hand combat that walking stick may be in his hands most ricky-tick...

Honestly if you're dealing with squatters I've been told a pack of cigarettes will get you farther than pepper spray. You catch (or talk your way away from) more flies with honey than vinegar after all.

My honest opinion is that you're probably better off staying away from this place.

If you can't be swayed and this place is a must explore for you despite the danger, don't go alone. If you're not street smart and situationally aware, take someone who is.

I was planning on bringing at two others. But still, in a known crackhouse, yeah I think I'll just take the advice leave it alone. I don't want to get myself into any unneeded trouble yet

Youre a brave dude going in harms way to explore a known crackhouse for sure.

Ive had "pepper spray" training my eyes water just thinking about it

OC = oleoresin capsicum the spays you and I can purchase have a % listed on them

the other factor to consider is the propellant pressure and the liquid base or "vehicle" its generally a solvent but after a couple of criminals got their heads set on fire by the use of a Taser and pepper spray. Manufacturers had to change the base liquid to something without alcohol or inflammable.

Just ask a cop pepper spray is not always effective some people are less effected than others, buy one from a police supply. Smith & Wesson makes some good ones they spray hard. The little ones ladies carry in their purses they bought at the department store spray too weak and loose pressure rapidly, good for one deployment, maybe.

We civilians can no longer buy CS over the counter, it was dozens of time better than OC I had that shit sprayed on me in a bar fight back in the 70s and its no fun. Took hours to recover!

I think some states consider OC spray a weapon, that's all I know good luck with whatever dangerous heroic urbex adventure you need this for. Bring back pictures of the dangerous hobos or bad guys you pepper spray try not to get it in your eyes LOL

In all my surprise encounters with squatters words have been my best friend. I’m also slow and quiet in my movements to minimize the level of surprise I give of I think there’s going to be squatters.

Pepper spray once dispensed goes where it wants. Including backwards into the sprayers eyes

Stealth: adj. designed in accordance with technology that makes detection difficult. Wraith: n. A wisp or faint trace of something

Truth.
If you're going to pack pepper spray, be prepared to eat it if you use it.
Try a -little bit- on yourself beforehand so you know you can remain functional if you deploy it.

My friend once maced a squirrel about 6 feet above himself on a tree.
Didn't seem to bother the critter much, but the skin around Marvin's eyes turned black and blue almost instantly from a fine mist of back spray.
Like an invisible hand back handed him silly.
I was rolling on the ground laughing... fun times.

Thanks lol! I think in this case, I'm more crazy than brave. But then again, I do crave danger every once in a while.
I've seen a rather unique self defense item that I just recently came across. It's a bit like a paintball gun, but smaller. It shoots a ball, similar to paintball ammunition, but bursts with sort of vapor that can have a much better effect than strong pepper sprays. But then again, explaining why have something that looks like a gun to a cop will not go well... at all

I'm still sitting here trying to imagine what one would possibly find worthy of exploring - or photographing - in, "a known crackhouse."

Edit: In Gary, Indiana, no less.

Have some sudafed handy.
Don't try this if you have asthma, severe allergie or other conditions it could trigger!

If you can't handle Thai peppers this is probably not a good idea...;P

Honestly, I dodn't even know myself. I think it's just blind curiosity lol
The place is actually right next to police station. But police give zero craps if anyone goes or not. But they do warn of the crackheads too. I don't know though. I'm having second thoughts about going now

True true. I'm not allergic and I don't believe I have any other conditions. But I'll try it though very soon. I mean, it's like I'm getting tased or anything so a few moments of pain should be fine I think haha

Last longer than that.
The whole point is if you get a face full can you still defend yourself?
Probably not.
Try a little bit in your mouth first; the eyes are very sensitive.

The only certain way to survive a violent encounter is to avoid it.
Avoiding violent situations should be the goal at all times... unless you want to fight.
Lol, I know some who wuv a good fight. One is a TX state cop

Ah I see your point. I'm generally one to avoid fights at all costs. My exploration side is getting the better of me.

I've never been to Gary, but I feel confident that you can find way better locations than a 'known crackhouse' next to a cop shop. 5 minutes on Google maps should do the trick. It is Gary, after all.
