Abandoned Steel Mill that was first brought to my attention on this very site by The Swan Station. The day that we explored this place I received some terrible news. My wife had called me that morning to tell me that a very dear and long time friend of mine had passed away over night of a heart attack at just 37 years old. This news hit me hard, it still does to this day. Of all the locations we explored on this trip, I used this one to reflect on my friend Victor. It was totally silent, calm and serene in here and the factory was vast. Also, making for an even more meaningful experience was all of this lush green growth that was taking over the plant. At times I found it difficult to shoot or to concentrate and spent a lot of time just wandering. When I look back at my photos from this day, I can see a difference in the way I shot and in the way I saw things. These photos and this location will always make me think of him and that is why each photo, my gallery and my video are dedicated to my good friend Victor. Here is my take on this beautiful location, I took a lot of pics!!

Sorry to hear of your friend, Freaktography. Great set. It's strange like they deliberately left a few pieces of the many large motors and equipment behind from the many that once were there.
Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in. |

Amazing location! Good shots too. Sorry about your friend. Seems death is never not painful.

These are beautiful shots...that overgrowth makes me think of Vault 22. I have seen one of those Toledo scales in a location; was sitting alone in a mostly empty building that was once a bakery. This is a perfect tribute to your friend, and although I don't know him, my condolences to you, and to those who knew him...I'm sorry for your loss.

Great post! It's nice that there is so much machinery left behind. The work boots and hard hats are cool.

My favourite place I have ever explored in the USA, probably up there in the best industrial locations in the country - I've been there twice now and could quite happily spend an entire day there again.

Excellent work if not perfect.

Amazing pictures! Wonderful depth of field and superb lighting. Are you using a tripod for those shots?

Really tough news about your friend. I wish that life was somehow "fair", but it doesn't work out that way. I hope that you have lots of warm memories about your time with him. Pictures... I just don't have the vocabulary to express how much I like your photos. So much to like about them! There are so many good photographers on this forum, yet you always bring us photos that are the next level. I want to be you when I grow up. Thank you for sharing with us! Abby

Sorry to hear about your friend. I can only imagine how hard it is for you; I lost my best friend at 52 -- to lose them at 37 would have been unfathomable. The only thing I can use to describe your photography is: "Exquisite".
"You're a catastrophe... On your watch we've lost almost all of our allies, the budget surplus, four airliners, two trade centers, a piece of the Pentagon and the city of New Orleans. Maybe your just not lucky. I'm not saying you don't love this country. I'm just wondering how much worse it could be if you were on the other side. Yes, God does speak to you. And he's saying: Take a hint." B. Maher |

I love this location, and can't believe it took as long as it did for me to go there.

#31 I'm curious if you peeked inside to see what might behind that door?

I do love the foliage inside of this place. its the perfect amount between overrun and serene. I bet some infrared photography would do this place some justice
