Active concert venue with fantastic lighting

These pictures spawned from a debate (see: http://www.uer.ca/...=1&threadid=131241). I work as a lighting technician and they were taken on the job from the top of a fly-rail about sixty feet in the air. Whether it's truly urbex or not, the lighting from the ground package was very unique.

My first pictures! Your opinions are always appreciated.

Those red lights against that skeletal structure do create a neat effect.

Take my suggestion as a grain of salt. I may not know what I'm talking about.

But if I were you, I would use pictures of cool lighting to enhance exploration photos. This is a poor example I made just now (using your picture over mine- I hope that's OK); I think it gets my idea across.

If you have it, blend modes like colour burn, screen, multiply and overlay, are fun to play with in photoshop. They can create a double exposer effect.

I really like that, actually. Thanks for the suggestion.

Looks like a fun job. Reminds me of an active theater I did one time.

That's surprisingly cool.

No problem, I like collecting shots of interesting lighting effects (ex. Christmas lights shining on snow) to use for this reason and as inspiration for drawings. When you said you were lighting tech my mind jumped to it.

It's great you can spend your breaks at work appreciating cool scenery! Even if they don't fit into a tidy definition "urban exploration" they are wicked industrial pictures.

That's surprisingly cool.

Thanks to UrbanDK

Up the rails. That "skeletal" structure is a rigging grid where all the chain motors hang. The red light is coming from the ground; I don't remember the band, but they had a set of deck lights that they used upstage. It was cool.

Yeah, I've been a nerd for lighting since before I knew it was someone's job to do it at concerts. It's the perfect career for me.

Wow, I wish I could still visit that fantastic concert venue. Actually, I'm a photographer, and I've always dreamed of opening my own photography studio with perfect light. Sorry for bumping this thread, just wanted to share my thoughts.

Considering this is your first post, and you match the profile of all the other spammers we get here, I'm taking a wild guess you will eventually modify your post to contain a hotlink, at which point we will ban you.

Happy to see another music and photography enthusiast on the forum. I'm not sure if you're into music photography, but that concert venue you mentioned sounds like a prime spot for taking some amazing shots. As for your dream of opening a photography studio, have you thought about using some cool lighting setups? There are some nice aluminum profiles out there that can help you create custom fixtures that will give you the perfect lighting for your shoots. Check out some options here if you're interested: https://www.etsy.c...l2-shopheader-name Btw, what kind of photography are you into? Do you have any favorite subjects to shoot?

Literally the PERFECT spot for meshing music and photography

There’s portable fluorescent light strips that you can clip onto your clothes. Basically illuminates everything around you, but more importantly can sync to the music you’re playing and have the colors switch everytime an 808 drops or something like that. Can definitely make for some really dope looking photos and videos. But honestly I wouldn’t try to manipulate the lighting of a location, just use the environment and surroundings to your advantage. More fun when you have to use your imagination for a bomb ass photo shoot. Maybe a flickering light, or a backdrop shadow of a sunset through a shattered glass window. SOMETHING like that lol
