Designed by Bosnian architect David Finci from Sarajevo, the hotel was built in 1978. The modernist-style building was originally intended to serve only the Yugoslav People's Army, but later also welcomed international guests. During the Siege of Dubrovnik in the Croatian War 1991 and 1992, the hotel was particularly fought and is in poor condition accordingly.
