This seems to be a fairly popular urbanEx spot here in Fort Worth; information and photos of this place exist around the internet if you look for it. There were two other small groups of people there exploring the area when I visited. That said, it's a fun site with some pretty cool old machinery still there, and it is very accessible.

The history of this site seems to be pretty scarce on the web. What I could find out was that this place was built by Fort Worth as a municipal waste incinerator in the 50s. Apparently, environmental regulations enacted sometime in the 80s resulted in the incinerator's closure.
A lot of the old machinery is still inside, naturally covered in a fair amount of graffiti.

Here are photos of the trash pits and what I think are square collector chutes, respectively. The square trash collection chutes in pic 12 feeds into what I believe is the burner shown in pic 9 above. Although I'm not very well versed in trash burning so I could very well be wrong about these functions.

Pretty sure the holes in the back wall are bullet holes... but the place does seem to be relatively safe nowadays. Not sure if I'd show up here at night though.
The roof also has some scenic views.

Fun Fact: Apparently this place once had the nickname "Widget Town". There was an urban legend that a population of "Widgets" (midgets but a bit taller, I guess?) lived here and would throw you in the smokestack if you trespassed onto the property!

Looks like someone has in the past judging by the graffiti, although the first 15-20 ft of ladder rungs have been ripped out so it wouldn't be easy.

I really like your framing in the second shot. It feels “natural”? Sometimes I find creative framing too forced.

Bent rungs are scarier...
Those type of wrought iron rungs are notorious for thinning with age then collapsing under weight. Sometimes one you got your foot or hand on goes and as you try to swift your weight another rung that one starts giving way as well.
Happened to one of the demo workers at the old Sunoco Paper Mill.
He was about 30 or 40 feet up.
They decided not to climb it... and were laughing about the attempt for a while.
Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

They are. If you get there at the right time, the sun will stream in and the dust will create some pretty cool light rays that shoot in through those holes.

It’s not particularly safe any time of day, but definitely not safe at night. I wouldn’t go there alone - day or night, but that’s just me.

Thanks for adding the old historic photo for comparison. I like to see the way places like this have changed and decayed over time.

First time I urbanexed this place was at night.
Felt totally safe too, just watch your step.

We've been a couple times and there were groups of shady people hanging around the place each time! Definitely a neat little building though!

I had the exact same thought ! Same architecture, same small pilot cabins... I was confused when I saw how small it was.

I would agree, but I’ve broken that rule a few times and ran into these at night:
-3 Rednecks tripping on shrooms
-At least 10 High school kids at once
-Several amazing graffiti artists
-Plenty of middle schoolers smoking weed
-Thug looking dudes who wanted to know “if we were strapped”
-And a load of irritable photographers who were mad we “Found their spot”
So I’d say it isn’t tooo bad.. ;) Come to think of it, the only times this place is empty are during the day.

Just found your post on the rookie forum and it led me here! I am new too.
Great pictures, I love graffiti art of any kid. Those smoke stacks are awesome, i want to find some like that around Raleigh where I live.

I've gone here a few times. If you like the "art" then check back every few weeks. Its always changing. I've gotten some good pics that I'll try to post later.
The Incinerator is fairly safe, even at night. The bullet holes look like constellations at night, very beautiful.
Did you walk to the end of the path to the back "water fall"?

Any time I think back to this place, I imagine how thick layers of Fordite could form from everyone painting over each other so frequently. I wonder how thick those layers are by now
