Heard of this location through a local website that posts interesting hikes.
It's approximately 8 km off the beaten path and over some rough terrain.
For the first time my Jeep earned some "trail rash" and for the last 2 km I was
forced to continue on foot. The site is a local dam and just beyond that is an
abandoned cabin that it appears is often used to camp or do some hunting/trapping.

Just off the main road a trail emerges looking like this. The trail continues
along the water for many kilometers with large mountains/cliffs to the right.

At several points there were downed trees or the bushes encroached heavily into the trail. My poor Jeep. There were a couple times I had to get out and
manually pull back the brush. Eventually I reached a point where several entire trees were downed and I had to carry on by foot.

At one point I came across rather large tracks. The left track is my boot for reference. I am assuming it is either a moose or black bear as they are common in the area.

For the last 2 kilometers I wasn't entirely sure I was going the right way and set myself a limit of 30 mins to find the site or turn back. Eventually I rounded a corner and saw the dam. Thank the lord. It would have been very demoralizing to have spend the day and not reach the site.

The Dam itself wasn't easy to get across. Had to wade through water up to my sternum to get across.

On the other side about 100 meters past the dam is the abandoned cabin that can be seen on google maps. There was lots of camping equipment accessible for what I assume is an honour based system of use.

All in all it was an interesting trip. I had attempted twice before to reach the site but there was too much snow on the trails for even my Jeep. It took about 5 hours total to complete the trip and my jeep and myself needed a good clean after. I would consider this the most difficult hike/drive to reach a site in my local area so far.

I was thinking the exact same thing... mighty nice of someone to set that up. Even the cookware!

I heard they have a few cabins like this. Some volunteers build them and let the public use them for free. I heard some university students do this as well. Most of them are in the middle of nowhere so the vandals cant juts find them and trash them.
