The Baker fenced off

I have not been through Mineral Wells in years, just cruised by the Baker and saw theres a 6ft chain link temporary type fence all the way around. First floor windows all look boarded, still got ghost tour signs up FYI

Sounds like they're getting serious.
Use caution if going there... any test Guinea pigs?

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

Looks like someone has ponied up and bought the place. Probably will be awhile until they realize it's a money pit and abandon (NPI) the project.

I've lost count of the threads that mention the Baker's (numerous!) renovation attempts. The city had even increased their own sales tax in order to help offset the cost, but so far, each attempt has ended in just that - an attempt. Hopefully, this time will be different, but I'm not holding my breath!

The link below is the most recent UER thread about the current Baker project status. I'm guessing whoever fenced it off recently are the same investors. The one promising sign this time is that they have actually started cleaning out the actual building instead of just standing around and talking about it to local newspapers:

This is probably one of the reasons for the new fencing:

They are starting the removal of lead and asbestos. This article was just published tonight, so it's the most current info.

I have to say, this is definitely the most promising of all of the increased taxes, foolhardy investors, and hopeful locals I've seen so far for restoring the Baker.
We shall see...

They official have cameras now since they are actively working on cleaning it out and all.

This time it seems promising since they have a lot of people invested and even a film crew

They have officially stopped giving warnings and/or only citations for trespassing at the Baker (and they’ve installed security cameras that actually work):

I looked up the police arrest report and they aren’t just trying to scare people. The new owners are definitely arresting trespassers. I believe they have arrested every person caught there so far (minus the two they are still looking for).

If anyone decides it’s still worth the risk, be sure to stay stealthy!

Certainly an upgrade from "trespasser," it sounds so much more serious!

I got caught at the baker a few years ago. Fortunately, I was a simple “trespasser” back then - not an “invader,” which only resulted in a citation. Albeit, a very expensive one!

One of three times I visited there was a VERY loud group of teenagers on the bottom floor, prompted me to leave very early in my visit. I'm sure they'll keep catching people here because this spot is popular with the kinds of people who wouldn't hear about people being arrested.

I may have visited this place in the summer all before the work began. Now FB pages show them actively cleaning out the place like the basement. Guess now we wait until it 'reopens'. Whenever that will be.
