i don't think you're going to fit in well here... abrasiveness is kind of a trademark of this forum. And we're not 'elite' members (do I smell jealousy)… those of us that have been here awhile are just that, those that have been here awhile and seen so much and so many things come and go. The DB is the way it is for quite a few reasons that I am sure have been touched upon. Do you have any idea how many unique and interesting locales have been lost to arsonists and vandals over the past fifteen years? Seriously? Or how many have been plundered? That's why the DB is 'fucked', as you so delicately put it.

tell you this, kiddo... I've known 2x and Blackhawk a long time. I value their counsel and their posts. I've never met 99% of this forum face to face, but I get the feeling that most of them I could call for bail at 3am. They are that kind of community.

anyways... ever get that feeling that you're morphing into a moose or something?

Well put.
If he thinks this bad... he doesn't know this site very well.

Goddammit I might have to boat post on my own thread if this keeps up. Somehow I get the feeling I really shouldn't be that surprised...

You really are asking for it, aren't you?
I'll degress and refer you to max's unsinkable fleet of bottom dwellers instead.
You're an FM, the Csptain of your own thread... skillfully guide it away from trolls and shallow shoals.

Really, I wasn't.

You're right it is pretty quiet lately. There are new locations always being added and updates always being made, but I don't think that many site users are paying attention.

For my region it's an indispensable research tool and there are about three of us keeping it updated, and I doubt anyone else glances at it.

I view the DB as being more of a chronicle than a directory. Where you see how a particular location changes over time and ends with its demolition.

Interesting. I usually find it quite relaxing to look out over an empty ocean. I also find the motion in sea state 5 or greater to be stimulating.

That was from the trip on the Queen Mary 2 to Nova Scotia.

The interior of the Queen Mart 2 is an OCD nightmare.

My area is lucky in the sense that we have had one or two people really put a lot of time and effort into this region's database, and the majority of the material is of good quality (thank you, 2x!).
There are plenty of locations that are outdated as far as the current status goes, but I don't use the DB for that. I do try to edit locations when I come across the ones that need updating. I've even added a few myself, but I've done that very sparingly. Usually I will add to what is already there. I've added quite a few photo galleries to the already existing locations.
I do use the DB fairly often, and this last part is why. I love seeing a location as it was in 2008 versus now. I added a second batch of photos just a few days ago to a Fort Worth location that was first entered into the DB in the early 2000's. That location has photos that span from that first entry all the way up to 2019. I find the tests of time and the before/after dichotomy really interesting. I think that this feature (and the stories/histories) are what make the DB valuable.
If it wasn't for the photo galleries, I would rarely use the DB.

".....

That said, sites that have been demolished or sites that are beyond saving should be added. The DB, despite its laughably small photos, can serve as a historical reference and still gives new explorers the chance to see incredible places that no longer exist. For example, P&A Mills was demolished and rebuilt a year ago, yet it's still not in the DB. Same for Pontiac Mills, which is thoroughly underway into its partial demolition and reconstruction into condos, yet isn't in the DB.

....."

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that the location can't be demolished already to be newly added into the database? I agree with SK though about much of the value of the DB being in the locations that are no longer with us.

Unless there's something I'm missing (which honestly is entirely possible), I don't think there's an issue with adding already demo'd sites. I added a local hospital in February that had been demo'd (😢) in December of 2018, and it looks validated and ok.
I agree also in regards to keeping those now gone sites on the database.
As a whole, I've thought the database is a great archive and resource, and while it may have become...stagnant in some places, it's only as "dead" as we make it.
While I do enjoy finding my 'own' locations, I have visited several places that are in the 'base, and I've lately been adding my own pics, or updating the info to those locations (while occasionally adding a site as well). To those who are adding and updating, and keep the database going, thank you!

I would and have uploaded and validated sites that were newly created as already demolished.

I hadn't thought of it this way, but that's a really good point. It's just as useful an archive/memorial as it is a guide.

I have a couple of entries in the DB that I need to delete or have a moderator delete them... in retrospect, they were foolish hubris.

I hate to be the one to tell you but you cannot delete them

Neither can the "moderators"

They can add it to a que and someday A-V might get around to seeing it, then if he agrees with the deletion reason he will delete.

Its almost like obtaining a court order, foolish hubris isn't going to be a reason unless youre in good with the man.

There is a button we can press to make a location unavailable.

some are just too well known to ever be protected again

Yeah I wouldn't look on the database for pristine locations, but I definitely want to chronicle the more well known ones. I was at an asylum campus a few weeks ago and ran into the 3 other groups there, place was covered in graffiti too. But the place is still there, it's still massive, and it doesn't look like it's going anywhere, so that seems like a prime candidate to be documented in the DB if you ask me.

In one month of being entered into the DB it will be burned to the ground...
Or
Turned into a hobo meth town.
Or
Both

I don't think I've ever "discovered" any location(s) in the DB that I couldn't have found using Google. Once they enter the DB, I would consider them public knowledge. I don't know how long it takes for them to work their way into the interweb, but they always do.

Nearly every location Ive added is either still there or was demolished by the owners not burned down because of the DB.

Nearly every location Ive added had signs of vandals and graffiti weenies already being there, and even some fires set. BEFORE it was added to the DB.

Im sure some arsonist can find stuff on all the numerous Abando America blogs and Instagrunt easier than enrolling and seeking Full Member status here if theyre just looking for something to burn.

Nobody here has ever discovered anything. Do meth hobos even surf the Internet very much? I have never known any so I could be mistaken. Free WiFi and bathrooms at Starbucks I hear, no purchase necessary!

Its all been done.

More of a joke... you know, humor?
Meth hobos are surprisingly well connected. Very energetic.
Odessa is crawling with em.
Many live in the gaming rooms here.
