Annual Abandoned Portraits w/ my Daughter

Every year in August I take my daughter to the same abandoned building in NY State for a themed photo shoot.

For my 2019 photoshoot with my (now 12 year old) daughter Victoria, I had come up with the idea to utilize mirrors, hopefully old mirrors found in the building that we shoot in every year.

Victoria and I visited the building 2 days before our scheduled shoot date to meet the new owners (an Amish family) and make sure we could obtain their permission to enter and to also scour the building for mirrors. We ended up finding 4 mirrors but only really needed two of them.

We collected our mirrors and moved them all to a central area and on shoot day I made sure to bring windex and paper towels to make sure the reflections were nice and clear!

But, before we got to the main theme of the 2019 photos and the mirrors, I had one thing to take care of….a continuation of (what I hope to be) and annual photo of Victoria standing in the same place, looking at photos of the previous years pictures.

2019

Now it’s time to see if we can make this mirror concept work, I had never tried it, I had not tested it and I have never seen it used before…it was simply an idea in my head.

In 2018 when we did Levitation Photography, I had done a great deal of research and looked for ideas and inspiration but for this years theme I didn’t want any outside influence or inspiration – I wanted this one to be all me!

It obviously took some time to get the mirrors angled properly and placed in the right parts of the scene, then I had to utilize whatever light sources I had, which were my LED panel lights and Lume Cube’s.

After trying out multiple locations within the building I have settled on these photos as my favourites from the photo session.

That's all, thanks for looking!!!!!

Nice work man - love the mirror! Does the "shard" travel for the annual shoot, or is it just a lucky opportunity?

LOL - I'm an idiot - I missed that in your post description. Your posts are usually pretty epic, so I skipped right to the pics. Much thanks for catering to an idiot!

Kabbalah is an undramatic tradition that requires great patience and stability. One of the reasons for this tempo is that everyone has to mature his potential gradually and thoroughly at his natural pace. In this way his life's work unfolds at the right moment in his own and the cosmos's time.
