I've been on a roll with abandoned residential properties recently, after not doing them for an age I have rediscovered my appreciation for the really bloody good ones. This one, however, is the best one I have done all year and up there in the best I have ever shot.
The house would appear to be of early 1900s construction in a mock tudor half timbered style. It is set way back from the road surrounded by trees on all sides with only a golf course to the rear, you'd never even know it was there driving past it. It was lived in by a wealthy family for what looks like a long period of time, the family was a regular competitor in vehicle rallies to Africa and other far-flung places, the father also had at least one large yacht - the two most prevalent things left in the house were either remnants from their travels or boating-related items.
Here is where things get a bit murky. If there was a family living in the house, I don't think they left the house voluntarily, rather they were required to leave as the house is suffering severe subsidence. There are large cracks throughout the building, one of which is so large you can see the light coming in from outside through it. However this is where things get strange. The other scenario which I think is more likely is that the house was lived in by one lone relative of the family, who later died and the house ended up being only partially cleared out before being placed up for sale - it's now sold, so who knows how long it will be about for. Sadly the only option would be for total demolition as the whole structure of the house is compromised.
We found a call-out sheet left behind by a security firm which indicated that they had been called out to the property, along with the keyholders and the police, only two days before I visited as the alarms had been set off - it would appear that they never thought to switch them back on which meant we had a nice easy time of it!

Based on the coins and the silver, I take it not many explorers have been through there, at least not of the MyInstaTubeTweetFace variety. But seriously - what a place! Some of the rooms looks fresh enough to nap in - clean pillow cases and all! Nice work as always Mookster....
Give abandonment a reason for its sacrificial reclamation to nature. Love it. Remember it. Take a picture. Share it. Leave the decay to nature.

Finds like these present the human side of UE. A family's history there for the finding. You are one who would truly appreciate and document the richness of the find.
I'm especially intrigued by the set of old encyclopedias and accompanying year books. I find them interesting because they present what we consider as history, as current events. I have set that predate WWII and it is so interesting to see the build up to the war, then year-by-year the progression. The early dark days when no one could predict the final outcome. The guardedly optimistic later years. And finally the resolution. History as a current event is completely different than history as history.

Thanks all, it was definitely a lucky find at the perfect time for once.
I was going to use my 30mm Prime in here but after attaching it to my camera I had a total brain fart and realised I had totally forgotten how to use it in an urbex scenario!
