About a year and a half ago, I had the opportunity to move to Maui, from desolate, economically broken Pennsylvania. And I don't really miss much of anything there, except abandoned decrepit buildings! So, recently, I started taking pictures of what is old, ruined, falling apart on Maui. Which, mostly is cars. And some other dilapidated structures. I'm going to have an ongoing series I'm calling Derelict Maui. Here's some shots.

Thanks for looking! I think finding desolate things here in Maui is a great juxtaposition to the normal vacation destination most people have in their minds. I'm noticing more and more, and finding some great things to photograph of the darker side that does exist.

Right on! This is an awesome series and I can't wait to see more. I've been out to Oahu, and noticed a lot of abandoned vehicles as well. Each place has it's own flavor ;) Very cool getting to live in Hawaii!
| |
Looking forward to your new series. The last 2 shots are my faves on this post. love the old farming tractor under the moody sky, and the greenery covering the truck

What is that in the first picture? An abandoned factory of some kind? When I visited Kauai almost a decade ago, I was impressed with the sites I found there. Oahu had considerably less.
| |
oh yeah! I really enjoyed this set and looking forward to more!

So many of these cars remind me of the toasty minivan we saw in Philadelphia, lol. Great shots, Maui looks like a beautiful place. I'm very intrigued by the factory in the first photo, and would love to see more if it's feasible to explore it.

I've heard before that Hawaii was rough away from the tourist areas, certainly Dog & Beth managed to make steady business bounty hunting. I did wonder if cars are simply dumped here because it would cost more than the scrap value to ship them somewhere to be dismantled. The Greek islands seemed to have cars dumped in rural areas, & I've seen pictures of similar things in the Highlands & islands of Scotland.

Very good, in this region, there was always some kind of special atmosphere.

Thanks all! If I get n into the first photos building... I'd be super happy.

Here's some more from this series. I've been trying to squeeze in some photography time, but it has been so rare. And we just had our second child, so, even harder i believe, in the coming months. Here are some photos from the pas little while.

As you can see. It's mostly abandoned cars on Maui. But there's been a couple other abandoned structures on my radar.
Thanks all for looking.

Wow, looks like West Virginia after Ohyouknowho. #5 is the lamest cell tower mount I've maybe ever seen. Glad I'm out of PA too... but I miss the old abandonments.
Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in. | |
These are fantastic! Miss you Dustin, congrats on your second child! That's news to me!

I miss the old abandonments too! My brother in law has been keeping tabs on some fresh ones that I'm missing out on in PA!
