The Nuclear Project

Last year we went to explore a well known abandoned nuclear power plant and failed miserably as the security went pretty intense after all the attention that got brought through Youtube videos and Instragram posts in the last years.

The first time we almost got caught while trying to make our way inside as the security is on site 24/7 and as the facility is on a active gouvernement owned property.

The security truck was chasing one of us and we had to bail.

Overall the building was pretty untouched, but what i would qualify as the main attraction in the building ; the control room, suffered a lot from vandalism.

Before even going the first time we thought that it would be nice to restore it back like it was when it closed, but the idea stay until the second time.

Fun fact, just a week before we got there this thread emerged on the forum : What a shame...
So Joseph, i hope you'll be happy!

It took almost a year before we could come back, as it's an 8 hour drive from home and in a different country.

When we arrived on site, it was worst than what we expected.
They had changed all the fences and the gates, and all the trees and the bushes were cleared so they could see all the perimeter. Not a single place to hide...

After jumping a couple of fences we were on the premise and we finally made our way in based on our last experience and a lot of researches.

We made a video about this little project and we hope you guys will appreciate it!

Damn, that was awesome! Definitely inspired to try something like this if I come across the right location. Hopefully it will stay in this condition now that there's security and it's actually a challenge to get inside. What chemical were you using for cleaning the graffiti? It looks like it worked really well.

Wow, this is amazing. Great job and I'm glad you guys were able to make this happen without being caught! I was always disappointed about what happened here and I hope your work sends the message that was needed to be sent and the security prevents the low level vandals.

Thanks man! I hope it will stay like this too.

We taught about doing some kind of serie after doing this, about cleaning/putting back power in known places, in a room or on a little bit bigger scale.

I already done this with the help of friends over the years in a big malting plant in Montréal but not just for fun, to create an event.
We are already on our 8th year doing it.
I repaired thousands feets of electrical wiring/light fixture, cleaned a bunch of room, repaired stairs, building stuff etc, i could talk about it forever lol. I spent thousands of hours working there in the last ten years!

The product i used was some random industrial cleaning product i found in the control room bathroom along with the cloths. You can see the brand etc on the bottle in the video.

You guys are heroes and absolute madmen! People here may have differing opinions on setting up shots, and I think this does count as an extreme example of that, but the end result certainly shows that it was well worth the effort to fix up such an impressive space.

You guys have been impressing on the regular but this one takes it to a whole other level!

I don't know many people who are taking the risks and putting in the time and effort as you guys have been lately!

Enjoy this and all that comes with it, you've earned it!

Wow! Amazing work!! I've been wanting to go there too... but I almost got caught by security when I went. It's like 30 minutes from my house so it's worth another shot.

I know there can be debate about what it means to alter a site... but I'm personally for undoing thoughtless vandalism. Bravo, and thank you.

It always makes me sad seeing tons of new graffiti at locations I've visited before. I'm with you on this one!

I've heard of cleaning up and staging things but this is ridiculous

All jokes aside, I have mad respect for you guys doing that. That control room is a thing of beauty.

I went there about two weeks ago and saw no security but all the doors were locked up pretty tight. They were either welded, or barred up with locks. I only saw one semi-viable door. It said 'check door' next to it, but would have took some persuasion to get open. Oh, and this is fantastic too. I love the fact you guys were finding things around to repair it.

I have always wanted to do this and have been in the process of doing something similar to our caves here in msp. So much garbage in them and graffiti on the sandstone walls.
