Euro Trip

Hey folks, I'm taking a trip to Europe August/September. I'm looking for cool places to take my camera! Any city recommendations that you guys find especially nice? abandoned or not?

EDIT: a couple folks pointed out to me that I didn't really phrase this well...at all. Is anyone anywhere in europe up to meet up? I can show you how overtly complicated and pointless an 8x10 film camera is and I can show you some cool shots! DM or comment I suppose.

Check out Serbia.

Also it’s not hard to just google abandoned Europe. Stop being lazy.

Europe is big. Do you have a car? Are you limited to trains and buses?

Serbia’s great, as mentioned above. So’s Italy. And Germany. And France. Poland’s nice and Belgium is unique. Ireland is worth a visit if you can get from the continent (it’s not hard). Bosnia is beautiful. Russia and Ukraine are fun.

Tbh I’ve never been bored anywhere in Europe so I’m sure you’ll be fine anywhere you land. There’s always something to take a photo of

Whereabouts are you gonna be going or is it a fluid itinerary? I'd be more than willing to show you some stuff in the UK if you spend some time here.

Think about its history. The Soviet Union was really big on industrializing, but weren't too big on finishing a lot of their projects. As a result, Eastern Europe has a lot of really interesting locations. The Baltic States and Russia are known to have a lot of old bunkers and factories.

I’m landing in Copenhagen and renting a car, and plan on hitting up Prague, marseille, the alps, and Norway. Really anywhere in France, Italy, Germany, Scandinavia, etc is open to me. If the place is good I’ll definitely go even if it’s a drive to get to.

If you're near the French-German border I'd recommend looking the ruins of the Maginot Line. It was massive series of fortifications and bunkers built by the French to repel a German invasion, which was completely useless as the Germans simply went through Belgium instead in the opening months of WWII. The ruins of the bunkers are still there to this day.

Not abandoned and limited days if the week to see it (I’ve missed this every time I’ve been through by a day) but Carriere De Montigny is an underground hospital from WWI near the French Belge border. Often called Suzanne.

Italy and France both have plenty to check out. Rich industrial history in the more northern parts of each. My advice for all places in Europe - like here - take the old roads. Maybe map your sleeping places and then fan out from there. These two things have left me most successful when euro-road-tripping

That’s a good idea. I know there’s a lot of half finished projects in Italy and lots of abandoned estates in France. I’ll just have to keep an eye out. While I’m in Europe I’ll try for a meetup and see if I can get some help starting out.

Happy adventures! There’s plenty to find and random side of the road stuff hasn’t disappointed me yet

Belgium is a country not to be missed for the pure amount of abandonment there
