hello all,
recently, due to medical issues, i lost my ability to drive and therefore have not been exploring as much as i'd like. with that said, i have been going through previously captured images and re-working them. here is a shot from this past february.
i appreciate all comments and critique.

Sorry to hear about the hard times.
Medicine; nothing is written in stone, keeping trying.
A well framed/squared off shot
Contrast curve looks a little off on the B/W (I think you could bring up the darker areas better).
Dial that in then go back to the color one and go from there.
What cam were these shot with?
I prefer color...
Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

thanks for the suggestion, i'll have to play around with the contrast curve on the b&w. these were shot with a 17-40 on a canon 5d2.

Are you using the Canon Digital Photo Professional software?
The older version is easier to use.
https://www.uer.ca...=1&threadid=127106
It makes editing easy and it's never losses the original image.
The old Canon Zoom Browser is very useful too.
If shot as a RAW image you have even more options and flexibility.
Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

I always shoot in RAW and usually i just use photoshop (and sometimes photomatix for a hdr). i used to use DPP, but found photoshop to have more options and flexibility. Maybe i'll give the old DPP a try again and see how it comes out.

I prefer the b/w because the color one looks oversaturated to me. The stair shape looks cool in the framing.

DDP is quick. Many using the built in settings can yield good results with minimum effort.
Their manual contrast curve is very easy to use.
The app also has a small footprint and isn't a ram hog.

Personally I really like the framing that you've done with this shot. I like the black and white version better just cause I feel like it gives off a sort of old abandoned vibe and I find that really cool. I think it would be nice if you could see a tiny bit out of the top window instead of it being flushed out with white. There definitely could be some adjustments to exposure and the curves for the black and white one. As for the color, I think it looks just the smallest bit too saturated for my liking. Overall I really like this shot!

I prefer the b&w. There's too much of that rust color occupying the frame for me in the color. Maybe bring up the blacks a bit so there's some more detail on the side of the stairs.
