Hello Atlanta peoples, I first joined/got interested in urbex when I was younger with fewer resources and half the guts to explore. Now, I want to go and see what I didn't get to before. However, as a woman, I don't feel comfortable going to the monthly meet-ups alone (if those still even happen). I'm already a part of the ATL Urbex FB group, but that seems like it has dried up too. If there's any women, LGBT, or POC that are interested in meeting up and showing me the ropes, please reach out. Hope that some of you are still active on here.

HI and welcome! I think a lot of us have found adulthood and work interfere a LOT w. exploring. I know I do. However, there are some real experts on here (not me), so I would stick around and absorb. Atlanta is a hard place to URBEX in. Anywhere halfway safe doesn't let anything even get a dull to its shine, let alone abandon. The side of the city rich in Urbex gems is extremely unsafe to explore - alone or in a group. That said, I hope you can at least do what I have resorted to - exploring vicariously thru others. Welcome to UER, hope you find it as good a resource as I have! -1foot

I would agree with 1foot; and add that the few places I used to go (along North 85) have recently been either boarded up or demolished. But hey, I'm no expert either.
I awake Knowing these silent twinges of humanity, are all that keep me from the brink of my great and terrible potential. |

Atlanta is dead. I'm the founder of the meet up. It no longer happens.

Me and a couple of buddies are still active. Not much of a community though. I need to start posting more on here though to make Atlanta seem more active again.

Yeah, I mostly know people thought friends or IG, but I'm mostly exploring solo these days, which as a female can definitely feel iffy.
Driving from Atlanta to Dallas 6/6 - 6/14, from Dallas to Chicago 6/14 - 6/20, from Chicago to Atlanta 6/20 - 6/29 with many stops in between. If you wanna meet up and shoot, drop me a line. |

Would anyone be interested in maybe trying to get a group together? I’m sitting on a decent cache of locations...

I'm game. I was out and about solo today. Just a sneak peek

Wicked! Where are you located in Georgia?

I'm highly considering living in Atlanta... sad to hear the urbex scene is dying out. Is the city really that dangerous?

Don't think it has anything to do with how 'dangerous' the city is, I'm sure the ATL exploring community is quite alive on other platforms like instagram/facebook, just not on UER.

I wouldn't say it's dying out. I think people just have their friend groups and aren't looking so much for new ones. There are plenty of us around. I also believe that as @damnband said, the meetups don't happen anymore. I have a number of friends who explore, although getting together seems to be the problem. I was out this weekend. I know of at least 3 more people who've been out exploring in the last few weeks. I also think lots of the people who've been in Atlanta for a while are taking trips elsewhere to explore new places and sites.

I visited the city a few weeks ago and managed to find time to visit this stadium. Hope to have many more adventures when I'm living there!

MonkeyGang, the city is not that dangerous. The scene disappearing has nothing to do with safety. Quite the contrary, it’s disappearing because of gentrification and the fact that ATL is in a HUGE boom of being rebuilt and “revitalized.” (ie the development of the Beltline) ATL is now a growing hub for the movie industry and a lot of old time spots are being purchased by such to be used in films, movies etc. (ie Pullman Yard) As a result, the majority of remaining spots are in neighborhoods or areas that are relatively unsafe... however, as even those neighborhoods are being redeveloped, even more locations are being repurposed, or worse... torn down to build ugly modern multi-purposed apartment buildings.(ie Memorial Dr. between Boulevard and Moreland) It’s pretty much a cancer and even the most “dangerous” neighborhoods will not be safe for long. The cost of living is rising and POC and queer folk (ie Midtown, West End, Old Fourth Ward, etc) are being pushed out of their longtime neighborhoods to make room for more affluent out of towners. It’s sad, but happening all over the country. There is still lots of abandonment, just not so much within metro-ATL anymore. I’ll get off my soap-box now.

Ha ha, I love how you put it; even the most dangerous neighborhoods won't be safe for long. LOL, to true, to true.

We’ve put together a group but it is not just women. It’s good people and we’ve gotten together twice.

I’d be down. I sent some messages to women on here but apparently, no one logs in all that much...
