Frozen Tropics Water Park

Recently Dan Lee, myself, and a friend of mine who recently registered for UER under the name Kajue got the chance to explore an abandoned water park. Despite the cold weather, it was still a blast- and no, Frozen Tropics is not its real name.

Three courageous explorers bravely cross the kiddie pool in a tribute to our founding fathers. Photo by Dan Lee, editing by myself.

Here's a doll I found in one of the back rooms. Not sure what it was doing there.

7.

The staircase leading down to the subterranean pumping and filtration equipment unfortunately ended in a pool of water. It appears the entire underground portion of the park is currently submerged.

Consider this icy paradise as a reminder of warmer temperatures to come. We'll be back in prime exploring weather in no time! At least, I sure hope so...

Wow - I know this place by driving by on occasion. Had no idea it was empty. What an incredible shame they didn't leave sump pumps running. I can't imagine the price tag on what was lost in the flooded basement. An even bigger shame that it wasn't explorable! I will have to add this to my spring list, assuming it is still viable then. Great share - fun group shots!

Give abandonment a reason for its sacrificial reclamation to nature. Love it. Remember it. Take a picture. Share it. Leave the decay to nature.

Really cool spot! I think I've seen this before but your photos show it much better. I'd love to see it reopened, after everyone explores it of course ;)

Yeah, good luck ever seeing it reopen. It apparently closed by order of the city government due to a litany of health and building code violations. Online reviews of the place universally give it between 1 and 3 stars out of 5, with complaints such as "lifeguards were inattentive," "over/under chlorinated water," "loose detritus in lazy river," "flooded elevator shafts," basically anything you can think of that could cause a waterpark to close.

Nowadays the entire basement level that contains the pumping and filtration equipment (when they bothered to use it) is under several feet of water, as you can see in the second to last pic- the floodwaters are touching the top of the doorframe. The resulting water damage and structural damage to the foundation, combined with the many issues the park had and a terrible public reputation make reopening an uphill battle, though apparently some people haven't given up hope yet.

Sweet
Last thing I want to visit right now is a water theme park.

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.
