The Christian Missionaries Mansion

It's not often I get a chance to explore something less than an hour away from me so when this popped up I decided it was worth the effort as it was so local.

The house is set in the large expanse of parkland making up the estate. It was built between 1860 and 1862 using elements from an older building on site and is a very pretty rambling red brick building constructed mostly in the Tudor style, with French Renaissance style colonnades featuring in both the interior entrance hall and the exterior southern aspect and a Gothic arch that leads into one of the courtyards.

In 1966 the house was bought by a Christian organisation specialising in training Missionaries for work in far flung corners of the world. In December 2016 the property was sold and they moved to a new headquarters, with plans for the conversion of their former home into a luxury hotel and conference centre approved by the local council last year.

Getting in was a bit of a trek but once inside, with the ever present wailing of countless fire alarms going off we began the explore. The house is a labyrinth of rooms and staircases going everywhere, it's a shame just how much it's been chopped up and modernised inside and also a shame how idiots have seen fit to concentrate on making a mess of the grand entrance hall. The majority of the building is stripped empty rooms however there are some very nice features left inside if you look hard enough to find them.

An enjoyable morning out!

What a gorgeous place! Love the architecture, those columns and arches are sweet...
Sad about the vandalism; so mindless, even more so than tagging in general. But as always, looks like you did a great job, thanks for sharing! And what is that in pic 18, looks like a cool piece of machinery.

Really beautiful, shame the taggers are already hitting on it.

Its the original clock mechanism with a makers plate dated 1870 up the top of the little clock tower on one part of the building - the clock actually still works.
