Haven’t seen much info on here about one of Milwaukee’s greatest abandoned attractions. Went to go exploring there the other day and found a way in, only thing that sketched my friend and I out was we thought we heard footsteps. I’ve heard of scrappers being found in the mall and we weren’t trying to confront anyone so we hit it soon after we thought we heard steps. Anyone in the Milwaukee area who’s explored Northridge have any personal experiences? Such a beautiful place I’d like to explore before it gets repurposed

Some of the folks within may know more. I can't say if what I hear is true, but I've been told it is heavily patrolled and a bust. I see pics on occasion on news outlets that gained legal (obviously) access. I have also heard (again, rumor - I can't confirm) of alarms and motion sensors. I would imagine it must have power, at least in part, as they have to keep it heated enough so the fire suppression systems don't freeze. Not sure about the scrappers - the images I have seen show it being pretty clean, and in fair shape. However, I have heard paintball clubs have gained legal access.
If the paintball is true, I can't imagine it would be too difficult to gain legal access, if you wanted to reach out to the owner. But I would be prepared to have a good story for wanting to photograph. It was owned by an Asian firm for quite some time, currently owned by US BLACK SPRUCE ENTERPRISE. GIS data shows them as being in MKE, or at least having an office here....

Northridge was whored out by Youtube, and subsequently destroyed by vandals last summer. It's now heavily watched between cops, the surrounding businesses, and a caretaker. Dodged a bullet several times last year, it's no-longer safe to go back.

Northridge was whored out by Youtube, and subsequently destroyed by vandals last summer. The doors have been welded shut and it's now heavily watched between cops, the surrounding businesses, and a caretaker. Dodged a bullet several times last year and it's no-longer safe to go back.
Black Spruce is virtually non-existent, only answering to the city and whoever throws enough cash their way to gain legal access.

And there you go right there. I knew someone had the deets. Shocking to hear a location has been destroyed after being posted on MyInstaTweetTubeFace. What a shame. If the interior is truly destroyed, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to now see this place rot into nothing.
Also not surprised by the bullet dodging. While not the worst MKE neighborhood in general, I drive by it to work on 76th st daily and there is a large housing project there that is filled with less than legal-abiding-societal-conforming folk. I see Police there at least several times a week, and panhandling at the gas station daily.

Figure of speech; the surrounding neighborhood is depressed but I didn't get the same dangerous vibes as, say: Harvey, IL. Though during my night shoots in November I likely heard gunshots while on the roof.
Evaded scrappers, gang activity, caretakers and possible cops over several trips. Scrappers were going ham when the sun went down on Black Friday, the place sounded like a goddamn construction site.

We explored it a couple days ago, it’s true that the main food court area has been pretty torn up and tagged up but the rest of the mall looks like it’s in great condition. We didn’t explore as much as we wanted to seeing as it was dark and we could have sworn we heard distant footsteps. The security wasn’t too tight and we walked around the exterior for a bit before we got in, but the thing we were most afraid of was running into squatters or someone else inside the mall that may not be too friendly. We also heard possibly footsteps and people in the basement, so I’m sure that others may have their own uses for a mall that’s been abandoned as long as it has been. We left a branch near an entrance to see if it gets tripped, I’ll update with some more pics hopefully next time we go back!

It was in pristine condition a year ago. No broken glass. No fires. No fire extinguisher dust. No graffiti. No scrapper damage. No wanton destruction. Other than the trees being ripped out and what minor damage was done by Casey Neistat, the place looked virtually untouched since closing in the early-aughts.
You won't find squatters because there are daily (or almost-daily) visits by the caretakers.

Milwaukee Mayor just gave the condemnation order for Northridge Mall. No specific plans as of yet, but if the Chinese owner Black Spruce doesn't demo it, the city has made the official stand that it will.
The attached Boston Store was turned over to the city a couple years back, and is already slated for demolition.

Its seems the group that owns it have not a care in the world when it comes to daily fines. I guess it's no surprise they have no care about a water bill either. As of 4/11, they have 20 days to respond to the city's order. Demo or appeal. I would be surprised if they did either. I am betting on it being gone by the end of summer by the city's hand. Also guessing my property taxes will be funding it.

Police and private security patrolling area. Limited POE as most (not all) doors have been welded closed or boarded over. It's doable, but getting harder now that Mayor Tom had his press conference announcing it being condemned.

Paul Blart doesn't seem to be there full-time but yeah it's on everyone's radar right now, and they just did another round of boarding in the last day or two. A maintenance crew also does a daily sweep of the place.

Several reports coming in this week say there's now a maintenance crew cleaning the interior almost-daily, during which they have observers parked in the perimeter who are watching the grounds for movement. They will call police. Avoid this one for a while and let the heat die down.
