This is my first photo thread so if there is anything I need to know or anything I did wrong please let me know. Also I put my iPhone photos through TinyPic to get them on here so please excuse the potato quality, so if anyone knows of any way to keep the quality please let me know
Built in 1885, this mental institution housed the largest population in the Bay Area. It was originally modeled as a Kirkbride until the 1906 earthquake when it was demolished and labeled as the greatest loss of life in the South Bay. 117 patients and staff died and were buried in a mass grave on the site. Afterwards, the facility was rebuilt resembling a college campus. In March of 2009, the last patient left the facility.
Unfortunately I couldn’t get too many photos of the outside because of the patrolling security.
There is a small chapel on the property as well which is only a little terrifying at night time.
The main building had a basement which was incredibly dark and damp.
You know we had to find it..
My favorite photo of the set.
The upper levels of the main building were completely gutted. You can get to the roof though.
Unfortunately the property is being bulldozed. I definitely want to make it back at least one more time. It is 100% worth it.

Well done Shoot the hell out of it while you can...
Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in. |

Lots of more pics & info in this thread if you’re interested. Shame to see it go down, but that’s the Bay Area for you. http://www.uer.ca/...=125178&currpage=1 edit: almost forgot the ORIGINAL original thread: http://www.uer.ca/...=112453&currpage=1

Really bummed out I couldn't go here before it was demolished. Judging by the pictures I'm surprised this place wasn't bombed in more graffiti.

As far as I know its still up. The main building, which is also the biggest, has already been gutted and I’m sure will get torn down any day now, but the smaller 2 story buildings around the property are still up and definitely worth a trip.

Thanks for the insight! Will definitely have to check it out soon.

God I can’t believe I didn’t really look into this place until I went off to college, I’ve been meaning to go check it out while I’m on break bc I really want to get in before it’s too late. Hopefully it’ll last until the end of March 😬

Holy shit, this is the place that was in that crazy ass thread? Very cool to see it now I guess.
|

I like the 1st pic. I've been 4 times but always at night so it's cool to see in the daylight. Also really enjoy the morgue. I retrieved a water bottle that a fellow uer member left in the morgue a month previously. Maybe I should start a uer lost and found service? XD Do you know if the power plant is still there? It should be in an independent building close to the hospital.

Here's a few photos from the power plant.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a power plant building since I’be been there. How big is it?
|

this is actually the Original thread: http://www.uer.ca/...d=99701&currpage=1

It was not very big, about 130ft in length. But I just checked google maps and they demolished a shit ton of buildings including the power plant.

Ahh, I was never linked that one. Thanks for that. That sure was a trainwreck & a half. Now I understand all the Railguy references. Sheesh..

Oh right.... THAT thread. I stumbled across that one a while back when I was sorting through the banned list for entertainment value. Railguy was a douche nozzle. Somewhere someone posted some crap he put on Facebook too, claiming all lies and he is innocent, asking his congregation to pray for him in his time of need. He was a preacher of some sort. There is even pics of him somewhere selling what sure looks like the kind of stuff you would find in bandos at a local flea market. EPIC turdhole. I feel privileged to NEVER have known him. On another note, what an awesome location. That thread starts with tons of great pics, before the Railguy train wreck....

People watched RG steal a radio antenna at a group meet up and no one said anything, at the time I was a first year member and had no idea what was going on. lol

What particularly amuses me, is that with all the evidence stacked against him, all of his posts proclaim liars and his innocence. Including the Facebook posts that were shared here after he was banned. What is disturbing, is that his proclamations of innocence almost sounded as though he himself believed it - throwing in all his words of god. I didn't know this epic turd and fraud of a human, but I think he is genuinely disturbed. I feel sorry for those falsely led by his preaching. Shit bag.

I work so close to this site too now. Can't believe I didn't make it into the power plant before it got flattened. Hard to believe there's still anything left of the main hospital building anymore. Considering how much concrete is in it though, I guess I'm not surprised it's determined to remain standing.
