It always seems when Rusty Canadian and I get out for the rare winter explore, we do it when the weather is at its worst. We had the hopes people would turn out at the Liberty on Saturday for some exploring. But given the weather, even the Ossington bus into Liberty Village was unusually desolate for a Saturday afternoon. After enjoying turkey sandwiches and potato soup, we went west to check up on a place that's been on and off the real estate market for some time now. It's still there, and has not changed drastically from its description on the UEDB.
There were signs of squatter life everywhere. Multiple mattresses, clothes, a fire pit outside, and supplies for drug consumption. We didn't see any tracks prior to ours when approaching the building, nor did we hear any signs of life when entering. So we proceeded reasonably through the floors...
Finally, we went into the basement, which is flooded, but given the week of below zero temperatures, there was a nice layer of ice we could walk on and see the basement. I didn't take any pictures while down there because it was too dark. While we were down there, we heard some cracks which we assumed to be the ice. We knew our time down there was limited. Not long after, we heard footsteps above us. We turned off our lights and stood silently, waiting for the footsteps to stop. Eventually, they faded away. We slowly, quietly packed our cameras away, and crept out of the building, concluding our cold explore.
One day I got a good camera. https://www.flickr...hotos/fleetsurbex/ | |
I live near this one and security is nonexistent these days. The property is up for sale but with the remediation needed, it will be sitting there for awhile.

lol this is the only place where I've ever been "busted" by the police in all my years exploring. Never even made it inside. Sad.

i Was there once (in 2009?) and didn’t realize until later that my lens hood was crooked and was causing a pretty decent vignette on every shot.
