Oklahoma is the most recent state to pass "constitutional carry" which mean in essence any bubba with a pistol can carry it in public without a permit. I have not seen all the rules yet but its a growing trend.

Well that sounds terrifying...

I've heard that you don't need a permit in Missouri to carry anymore, either. I know before I moved here you needed one, so it must've changed after 2014 or so.

When I lived in Colorado in the 1980s. You didn't need a permit to open-carry. In all the years I lived there, I never saw anyone open-carry.

You needed a permit to carry concealed.

All of this concealed carry and gun talk reminds me of this:

I've seen plenty of open carriers, but whats up with the automatic? It can't be practical (or comfortable), if you're not fighting in a war.
Anyways...

In Texas there are very few restrictions on carrying a long gun (rifle shotgun) see them in the back of every truck out here during the fall.

That said (you know how I am) do not bring a handgun to a gun fight if you have a rifle available.

Rifle for the win! <3

Have you ever shot a .45-70 Lever action before? 475 Grain bullets! Pretty fun gun.

I have owned several rifles in 45/70. The old loads are mild compared to the modern loads. My last was a Browning single shot (1886?) it would rattle your teeth. Ive moved on to .444 Marlin using a 265 grain Hornady produces just as much energy with flatter trajectory.

Flatter trajectory = longer effective range. I don't hunt animals anymore. I live in the country, carry an AR15 for protection against humans (5.56mm)

I have run into a homeless man who threw rocks at us from a 2nd story window. Pretty scary. The guy followed us chucking rocks.

I would think carrying something is a good idea.
To be judged by twelve is better than to be carried by six.

But on the flip side those 12 will nail you to the wall if you get caught carrying while exploring- it turns pretty much any minor exploring related charge into a felony. Furthermore, this extends to anyone you're exploring with, even if they are unarmed. I recently heard of an explorer who was charged with a felony weapons offense because the person he was with was carrying a gun, even though he was unarmed.

I think it all comes down to whether your explores run the greater risk of being murdered by an entity that you can otherwise conceivably defeat with a practical firearm (sidearm, basically), or being engaged lawfully by private security and/or law enforcement officials. If the former, I suggest you try to explore better places. Where the pride in hanging with the riff-raff?

If your explores run the risk of being murdered (lawfully or unlawfully) by an entity (MPs, organized crime) that you have no hope of defeating with a practical firearm... then dude, you hardcore.

Surely we wont run into anything that can be killed by just a firearm! But as a side note, I think we've recently had a law where you can openly carry blades and swords over 5ft long. So if you think about it, you could take a long sword or some BS like that exploring.

Now is it a very bad idea? Yes. Is it an amusing and humorous idea? Also yes.

When I'm exploring? Firecrackers and a deep metal pot.

At home It's always going to be my 357. Lucky for me I'm in a open carry state so I usually feel pretty safe exploiting the big iron for the world to see.

That's pretty handy but how much room does a deep metal pot take up though?

LMFAO, I like to tie it to my backpack and if I ever get stopped just tell em' that I'm a hobo and didn't mean to trespass.
