Posted by JokerSpecter Here's this moral circle jerk, again. Here's a grown man's response: it's fuckin stupid to objectively steal from an abandoned building. It's also fuckin stupid to sit here and waste time demonizing a person for taking a "souvinere". On one hand, nothing is valuable enough in a rotting building to take. On the other hand, who gives a fuck? I mean, really. The guy who takes it is assuming responsibility, not any of the ones criticizing it. The guy who left it didn't give a fuck. And the only person who will give a fuck, is somebody who believes they have say-so over a derelict objects fate. The uproar i've seen from people who found out I took things as insignificant as a pin, or a desk plate is absolutely and hilariously ridiculous. I've never considered stripping a building, but i'm not about to let somebody sweat me because I took an object that was left behind. I took a photograph of an abandoned building I was in and less than a year later, absolutely everything in that building had been cleared out. What good is it if it's carelessly wasted? And when you find it in your little tour, there's really not much separating it from the grand cleaning. Hey ban me but at the end of the day, the argument becomes fuckin dumber and dumber every time you try to find grey area. How's about, "Don't take anything and let other people take responsibility for their own actions."? I can't wait to see what kinda adversity this gets.

Exactly what I would expect from an old pro tacti-cool operator like Joker Speculum. The mods can call me a troll if they wan but at least they cant accuse me of being a petty thief.

I never carried a bag of roofing nails while sploring... However I do keep my walking stick and my little empty blue bucket. Sometimes in the warmer months I run into overly protective locals. I briefly detain them, but never take them...

There's really not much on this side. We got like, three viable locations and that's it. Everything else is smaller, less interesting buildings. Like stores. LATER ADDED: I now realize, that Southshore is a person in this thread and not an off-the-cuff name to me.

As far as I can see, the mods don't care nearly as much as you do. I missed you, daddy shark. Do do, do do do.

In Korea, if you're caught in any abandoned place with something in your bag from the location, you're getting a criminal record. In recent years I've found police are more attentive to catching me and searching my bag. I've worked with some and feuded with others over UE ethics. Urban exploration is not a well-understood concept in this country, but when it becomes a thing, I don't want the whole country thinking we're scavengers or vandals. That's a big deal that is likely to affect my future livelihood and ability to stay in this country, maybe even to stay out of jail. Reputation is paramount for all urban explorers, and one asshole who ruins it is putting at risk a lot of other people.

Exactly . Unfortunately we have a whole new generation of "urbexers" more interested in their short term Instagram results. Fleeting fame as it were.
