Hi, I live in Lawton and I'm gonna go up to Picher to explore sometime in the next few days. I might stay overnight. I'm a 21 year old male and I planned on bringing my dog. If anyone was interested in meeting up there that would be awesome.

It is an interesting place. I think I might have some photos from there in the archives. I'd be interested to hear what you find. I'd like to go, but I don't know if I could work it in.

I own you, don't I?

Is it still worth checking out? I heard most of it was demolished and the pics on here are a few years old.

More than 90% of the structures that were there less than 10 years ago are gone now. However, there are still many remnants of mining equipment and what not scattered around. You're gonna see more foundations than anything. If you do plan on going there, best scope out other areas in neighboring towns as well.

Dan Bell did a nice mini-doc on Picher a couple years back

Give abandonment a reason for its sacrificial reclamation to nature. Love it. Remember it. Take a picture. Share it. Leave the decay to nature.

i had thought of making a run up there myself but wasn't sure how much was blocked off or patrolled. From a quick search doesnt look like much is watched or anything other than the mounds. I look forward to seeing what ya find!
