Hi all, Im about to upgrade my light kit for abandoned stuff and wanted to see what other people are using. I currently use some 500 lumen bike lights which are great for exploring but terrible for pictures. The beam is far too narrow for how I like to shoot. I do most of my stuff handheld so doing a long exposure and lighting up things separately doesn't work. I'm thinking of getting some cheap LED panels. Everyone I've seen doing abandoned videos uses a Neewer CN-160. It's $20 on Amazon and seems like a fine choice. Neewer also makes a 216 bulb panel which is supposedly brighter but I haven't seen any info on it. That one costs around $30. Another possible option for me would be building a light like a Stratus LED. It would be totally overkill and batteries would be too expensive but I would get much more use since I film videos at night as well. Do any of you guys have any suggestions?

Here are the lights I use for explorations: Handheld: https://www.amazon...8GBW24HDG5AI&psc=1 Headlamp: https://www.amazon..._s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 You can get a wide enough beam on both of these to take decent photos. However, keep in mind that they are only a handheld and headlamp respectively. If you add in a panel like the Neewer CN-160 you would have a pretty good lighting kit.

Many of the LEDs are way too cool; too much blue. These aren't best for photography. Get one rated at 5000K It should have a CRI rating; it should be as close to 100 as possible. Anything below 90 isn't acceptable. https://www.diypho...e-led-light-bulbs/ Dig around more on the internet to learn how to make the best purchase/set up. It will save you from having post processing nightmares...
Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in. |
