how I start exploring entry by pirate3 9/11/2004 10:58 PM
| so I thought I'd chime in with my own journal and start with a little"how I started exploring and about me thing" my offline name is a palendrome, and I live in southwestern ontario which is, coincidently where I do most of my exploring I started what I call sleuthing back in highschool when on any given day we (meaning myself and a few equally bored friends) would run amok and explore we started innocently enough with a glorious train bridge that was at that time still in use but that now sits abandoned and beautiful over the grand river
we also did stupid things like cut each others hair and sneak into buildings
southwesterners (or any explorers that have been there) may recognize the last poor scratched up image as being from the american canning company in simcoe one of the most beautiful places I've been I first saw it when I was 15 (ackk I'm 26 now) when I was drivng with my mum to some stupid appointment and I turned my head and saw these huge trangled pieces of metal, car parts, what looked like explosion marks on concrete walls and industrial ephemera I just whispered 'cool' under my breath and never thought of it again until 2 years later when 3 wired teenagers (you know who you are) decended upon simcoe there was some sort of mausoleum we hung around there later, remembering the factory brash McDittrich on my recomendation barges into the factory( daylight hours) and the place is f'in amazing later struck hard by the exploring bug we climbed around hamilton roof-tops and factories, lurked around ramshackle brantford streets and a very cool textile factory , spring plants, workers houses, mining plants, barn building, bridges schools at night (pa systems are fun), and generally lurked in places that other people passed by or found uninteresting a die hard skinny puppy fan, these places really resonated with me and mine I incorporated much of what I saw into artwork and projects
anyway, pleased as punch I was when I found this website a damned 10 years after my first foray into "UE"
