I remember when Flickr didn't oversharpen your images. They used to look how you uploaded, no matter if viewed on Flickr or posted to a forum. Still angers me.

Flickr has been sharpening photos on resize since day one. The originals have always been untouched. I just checked and there's certainly no difference in the Original rendered on Flickr or in the downloaded original which matches the uploaded file. I guess I don't know how they handle files that are small that you wouldn't necessarily need resized, I assume they probably "resize" them anyways.

Posted by Bilvavi I was actually hoping the announcement would be access to FlickrMail via the app. Messaging was the #1 reason I migrated to IG.

This is coming soon!

Well I just upgraded mine to pro. Six days left to get the first year subscription for $30.

Fuck 'em. I downloaded all my photos, now I'm going to delete my account.

As a business owner... I don't really have an issue with the price. Those "greedy corporations" still have to make money. Just like you do. I think they should come out with a pricing tier though.

I don't think it's so much the price, as it's the forced removal of photos if you don't pay for existing members. That's lame.

I have noticed there is a surprising amount of porn on Flickr.

I had a paid Flickr account before Yahoo bought it. I was less than impressed when Yahoo bought it and terminated the paid account system only to bring it back again. SmugMug wants even more money BUT... they also sell your photos. From what I read it is one of those magazine subscription sort of deals where you have to tell them not to sell/ use your photos. If you do not tell them not to then they assume you are ok with them doing as they please. This is why I removed all my photos from Flickr right after SmugMug took over. I haven't deleted my account or my groups there. Mostly because I hate to finish them off when there isn't anywhere else I have found to move them to. I have looked at the tried self hosted options but setting it all up takes time and figuring out software so I'm making slow progress. Also, if you need a simple, quick way to download your photos from Flickr I found https://downloadair.ghusse.com/ which worked really well and was free to use.

Can you give me a link/source for that? I tried finding this out, or finding an option to opt out, but I can't find anything where they say they'll sell my photos. If this is true, I'd like to opt out. I did see that they may display your photos with your account name attached & linked to promote the site, but I'm fine with that.

Considering I have over 300,000 photos uploaded to flickr, I am at their mercy for now. I figure the sheer quantity justifies the cost... For the record, I would pay triple the current amount for pro if they offered a version that accepted RAW.

Why on Earth would you want to upload RAW?

Just as storage mostly, not necessarily for sharing, but I know that's not the purpose of Flickr. It would be convenient - especially since they came out with the ability to automatically upload/sync photos on the computer so all I had to do was insert my camera's memory chip and it uploads to my account. But only in JPG format. I would pay extra for that kind of storage feature on a site that I already use regularly.

I just noticed this update on the Flickr site. https://www.flickr...76293604137/page2/ They have extended the timeframe to get your photos off of Flickr until March 12th, 2019 in case you want to get them off of their site before they downsize your (free) accounts.

I ended up cracking and repurchasing Pro since I had photos to upload above the 1000 photo limit, and the code base for my UE site isn't at the point I'd want to put it to use for a personal site.

In general, online storage is the problem. :-\ LowEndBox.com does occasionally have specials on storage machines with low specs and large chunks of disk.

Hey Guys A quick follow up to this and what I found as an alternative to file storage. I got an Amazon Prime account for $7.99 per month which automatically comes with unlimited photo storage at full resolution, this also include RAW storage. I was able to connect my external hard drives and back up every photo I have ever take in full res jpeg and raw, it even uploaded and stored them in the same folder structure as my hard drives. As an added bonus in addition to free 2 day shipping if you order from Amazon you also get Amazon Prime Video. I needed a backup solution in the event that i ever had a crash of any of my external storage drives and so far I'm super happy with it. Edit - it also allows you to share in forums, but the file is huge, see below
