This former Detroit parochial school was built in 1926 and expanded in 1946 and 1968. The expansive school takes up about half of a large block behind a church of the same name. Students attended from kindergarten through grade 12. It was closed in 1975 and leased to DPS in 1979, after which it was rechristened after a longtime Detroit teacher and used until 2005. It has since been victimized by the usual graffiti/vandalism/scrapping/arson etc. Despite this, the school has managed to hold plenty of remnants of its past and provides numerous photo opportunities and at least an hour or more of wandering. As I was leaving, I ran into a couple who came all the way from Denmark just to explore Detroit. They were a little discouraged because a lot of the places they had planned on were either gone or completely boarded up. So I gave them a few places that I knew were still viable. I hope they had fun and their trip was worth it. 1. IMG_0984 by KMD1720, on Flickr 2. IMG_0928 by KMD1720, on Flickr 3. IMG_0930 by KMD1720, on Flickr 4. IMG_0933 by KMD1720, on Flickr 5. I enjoyed this. It was beautiful... pretty ghetto bombed out now. Guess it's get up and go done got up and went. Shot one in West Chester that flipped around like this one before being demoed. Funny how remnants of its Catholic years still remain just as in the one I toured

Thanks! I definitely didn't come in expecting this much to be left, especially having been to a bunch of the DPS buildings (after they'd already been scrapped to death, unfortunately). It was a pleasant surprise and definitely a highlight of the trip.
