Famous Auto Plant in Michigan

Had legal access for this 3 day photography workshop. Was very interesting and fun. Even took a guided tour of the place afterwards to learn more about the history. 10/10 would do again!

This is my first real attempt at *good* photography.. with like, a nice camera, and using a tripod. Not just my phone and the manual settings. Let me know what you all think. Thanks!

Edit: The images are a little compressed and don't look as good. Here is a link to my Flickr for better viewing! I took quite a few pictures of the same thing with various settings.. When it came to narrow down and delete, I kept some duplicates because I couldn't decide. I was too lazy to make up my mind with Flickr, so there are some duplicates.https://www.flickr...2285294@N07/m54K8F

4 and 5! Love the lush bed of green. And those tiles are beautiful!

Is there a way to post the large resolution pictures on here without compressing them? They look really grainy.

Upload to Flickr, usually little to no compression when they get embedded here.

Love #4! I had a chance to check that place out for a 1/2 hour in 2015, wish I would have been able to attend the 3-day workshop! Definitely need more than 1/2 hour for that place. Was 3 days even enough?!

Three days was more than enough, BUT since it was a legal explore (one of 2 I've ever done in my years of exploring lol), we weren't allowed to do some things. Sometime soon, I'd like to go back and explore here again, and do the things I was not allowed to do before. The buildings themselves are mostly empty, and uninteresting. There are some noteworthy things, like a burned out bus, a burned out Volvo, some boats that idk how they got there but they did.. a [decayed] piano.. And lots of graffiti. That's really it honestly. The new owners of the buildings have some really good plans for some buildings that they are repurposing. You can even take the Pure Detroit Packard Plant tour, which was very interesting and informative (a friend and I took the tour). Most of the buildings are trashed though, and the oldest building is falling apart. It was cool, and huge, but I was pretty bored by the end of the second day. The third day was mostly just going for specific things we had missed, that other people in our group had found.

When were these taken? It looks so empty now!

I miss the room with the mountains of shoes. That room was the best.

This photo workshop with permission from the owner was arranged by Abandoned America, https://www.abando...us/workshops-71158 . The parking lot was guarded, and site security officers were directed to keep us from being annoyed by ruffians. A nonparticipant friend of ours who had hoped to entertain himself at the other end of the site was firmly sent away.

Some buildings were off limits due to safety or ownership issues, as were roofs and tunnels. Hard hats and boots were required, as were P100 respirators, tho neither I nor anyone I saw used them. Nearly all of the space was open to the elements, so they seemed unnecessary. The explore was not without risk; we had to sign two waivers, one for the property owner and another for Abandoned America. The swingeing fee made for a mature, responsible group.

Each day started with a half-hour orientation walk and safety talk, after which we scattered in "buddy" teams of two. "Take only pictures, and leave only footprints," our guide told us. "But if a brick falls on your head you can keep it."

4. A skybridge on the south side of the complex is floored with end-cut wooden blocks. These were used because they absorb spills well. Apparently toxic waste was little regarded in those times unless it was slippery.

5. JennyUE was my buddy for this workshop. "Always stay within hearing of your buddy." No easy assignment; the place is huge.

18. Rainwater collects on the flat roofs and migrates downward, sustaining oases and even small trees on lower floors. This is why each floor upward is more decayed. The upper floors of Building 10, originally seven stories tall, looked too dicey to explore.

I can dig it! I wish more places would do this sort of thing. Given the choice between fine or fee I'd choose a fee any day of the week. I was there two summers ago. Had a nice chat with the surprisingly friendly security, but she would not let me stay no matter my begging
