The Millionaire Mansion, abandoned

A few weeks ago, my friend and I went out to explore and abandoned mansion. This mansion was built in 1916. It was used as a monastery, a conference center, and was to become part of a neighborhood which ultimately failed. A lot of work was done on the mansion and inside, it now looks unfinished. Stairways were removed, walls knocked down, but there are some parts that were preserved. Other than that, it's mostly untouched by vandals. There are also other abandoned homes nearby, like I said it was a failed neighborhood, but most of them are not possible to get into.

I wish I did take more photos of the place, but I was really just taking in the beautiful details of the place

Excellent post
That's what happens when you build a barn with no fields for hay...
What killed the rest of the neighborhood?

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

Well the plan was to build a neighborhood for elderly couples, the problem was it had no amenities, no pools, no golf courses, tennis courts, or clubhouse. It was just a basic suburban subdivision but gated! The houses planned were huge and very close together, some supposedly meant to be sharing driveways. The town didn't like the idea, but eventually development completely stopped in 2008-09 during the recession.

They town wanted to revive the plans but rethink zoning, but nothing has gone through. Everything is still maintained such as electrical, sewage and even landscaping. Some of the other homes do contain what look to be development plans and blueprints, but it was hard to see as we only saw through the windows.

I know, it's very nice! It's actually in a very wealthy town that rarely sees any crime and it's not really seen by the main road, it's tucked away.

Very nice place though, and I would probably come back, definitely a place for photo opportunities.

What a Beautiful place! Such a shame! Love your Hallway shot #7 and the view from the porch/courtyard #9. How many rooms does this Mansion have? and, you must go back and get more pics if you can, would be really intrigued by the Bathrooms, Kitchen and Bedrooms

Thank you! That hallway is really cool. The mansion used to be filled with a ton of rooms, but as I said, they tried to rehab the interior, but never finished so a lot of walls have been knocked down. You could at least see where the walls were placed by looking at the flooring like in photo #2 & #6. There was still a dozen rooms intact on the first floor.

The kitchen was an unfortunate one and was completely gutted out, all that's left was a temporary industrial sink. Bathrooms are gone too, the only room I can tell that was a bathroom was on the second floor. The shower floor, the toilet pipe, and sink pipe were there, but nothing else. It also has a window and the bathroom was actually built into a turret.

Well, you weren't kidding! Nothing much left at all. Sad. Makes me appreciate what you did photograph all the more so with so much gutted. The bathroom in the turret sounds like it would of been really nice at one point in time. Kind of a private place to meditate lol.

The room in your first picture...wow. That is really something grand. Sad that it's been so neglected.

UPDATE: I came back here again! The owner closed up some access points, but new ones have opened up! Nothing has changed here at all, no graffiti or damage which is nice to know. Place still looks beautiful!
