Hey just wondering what your longest road trip to an abandoned location was. My longest drive for strictly only seeing an Abandoned spot is around 2 hour. Post some pics of your trip too

Around 8 hours, made multiple 3-4 hour trips before though.

Drove 4 hours to an old missile silo just to be threatened by a crazy lady. That was like 4 years ago. I'm going to try again here soon

In regards to those asbestos figures...I'm 40 (and a 20yr smoker), so as Homer Simpson said, "I like those odds!!" (I still carry a mask tho, it's not like we bathe in the shit) Kinda reminds me of Denis Leary responding to the 'every cigarette takes 7 minutes off your life, if you quit smoking now you could live another 10 years' thing..."Well who cares?! Those are the worst years, the ones at the end! Those are the wheelchair, adult diaper, kidney dialysis years, you can have 'em!"
Anyway, back on topic...in 2012 my brothers and I took a side trip from Myrtle Beach (on the way-ish to Kansas City) to an abandoned theme park in northern Arkansas, so about 1000 miles. I personally have driven from Greensboro, NC (my home) to Pennsylvania (about 7 1/2 hrs) a few times to explore a mostly abandoned mining town near Harrisburg. (I won't reveal the location although most urb-exers especially on the east cost likely know the area I'm referring to.) Most of my long drive explores are about 2 or 3 hours away.

When I lived in NYC, I made the 6 hour drive up to an abandoned lead mine.
When I lived in Colorado (mid 1980s), I spent a good 16 hours on the road trying to get a glimpse of Area 51. There used to be a ridge that you could climb up and look down onto the base. They have since blocked that off. On our way back to the main road, we got stopped by BLM cops and questioned about what we were doing.

I took a 3000mi trip, with about 50hrs behind the wheel. I avoided most freeways, and hit up stuff I stumbled upon with a handful of planned locations. The route included back roads, gravel roads, dirt roads, and the wicked 4x4 trail to The Hensley Settlement in KY. The basic route was Milwaukee, WI to Breezewood, PA to Myrtle Beach SC, to the Cumberland gap TN/KY, to Milwaukee.
I am not going to bother digging up all the links to pic sets, if you are interested you can pick through my post history. Not every explore made it to UER. Some I didn't bring my camera (phone), some weren't worth sharing, some I just plain haven't posted yet. I traveled and slept in my Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The trip included various train tunnels (abandoned and in use), abandoned Penna-Pike and Rays Hill Tunnel, Nike Missile Installations, caves and a limestone mine, abandoned brick works, abandoned cement silos and offices, abandoned home/farmsteads all along the Appalachians from PA to TN, an abandoned amusement park, and countless abandoned houses and farms in the plains.
It was an EPIC 2 week trip. I am doing another trip in 2019. It is in the very early planning stages so far. Inspired by kenfagerdotcom's most recent set, I do know my next trip's target is CO. Mines, ghost towns, and everything in between here and there.

Just for the singular purpose of exploring, six hours to Gary, Indiana on two occasions. I took a week-and-a-half long vacation to the Carolinas and Georgia that included a lot of exploring but also other normal vacation things.

Ohhh...the holy grail of urbex, at least in my humble opinion. That must've been an incredible explore...(you're referring to Pripyat, I assume?)

I usually try to work in urbex locations wherever I go on vacation, but this last weekend I drove 1,068 miles from Madison, WI to Gilman, CO. Worth it.

9 hrs round trip from Harrisburg to the middle of long Island to check out the remains of Wardenclyffe. Then last summer about 21 hrs from Harrisburg to Detroit. (Had a convo with the friendly security at the Packard Plant  )
Both of these were day trips. On a motorcycle.

I I wandered the wilds of West Virginia on a 5 day bike trip two years ago, probably 1200 miles or so.

Yes Pripyat and the Duga. Absolutely worth it and the flight is the only real cost. 11/10 recommend

8 hour flight to NYC. Followed by a 3.5 hour trip north to Binghamton to meet my friends. Then a 13 hour drive south to Atlanta.
Just over 24 hours of travelling. Worth every minute.

I'm in STL and I never bothered going there, lol.

Well, I've driven from STL to New York and lots of places in between.
In 2010, I flew to San Francisco, then drove back to STL. Had to stop at an ER mid-way due to poison Ivy like rash that left my body swollen and I was losing feeling in my hand. Drove through the desert like that with no AC. Fucking sucked. But the memories are fun.
I'll drive wherever the cool stuff is. I like road trips. Driven to Chicago, MSP and KC numerous times.
Maybe one day I'll get to fly to Europe or something. Still just a dream.
