AKA Staircase State Hospital. The old Admin. in now a cozy, trendy Inn. They even list the spiral staircase as one of the amenities of the place.

It was beautiful in a state of decay, but it is nice to know it won't continue to rot into nothing. Thanks for the update!

Luckily it got taken care of before it got tagged up any worse, and glad it was re purposed for now.

Nice to see it restored and not meet wrecking ball. Interesting link...I enjoyed checking out the place

As much as I love decay, like said above, its always nice to see a place re purposed vs being torn down.

Good as it gets. At least others will be able to enjoy it in the future. Rarely does this happen. The white staircase walls now are way too bright though. Burn my eyes out.
Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in. |

My brother lives in Staunton so I've kind of kept my eye on the place. The total campus reuse plan is a bit odd. I'm honestly surprised it has worked so far. Part of the place is condo's, part rental (neither of which are remotely cheap), and this hotel. Did I forget to mention all 3 are still a stone's throw from buildings that are still abandoned and decaying? Oh well, it's worked and that is the important thing. I guess it helps that it is across the train tracks from Downtown Staunton.

Too bad the story didn't include before and after pics like the opening of this thread. It would be cool to see a couple rooms, lobby, bar, restaurant, etc. in a side by side before and after....

Wow!

If anyone's in the area the owners are perfectly okay with people wandering around the building, even if you're not staying there.
Buildings have two natural enemies- water, and bears. |

I agree on all counts.

Finally got down to see the place myself. They did nice work!

There are still 1 or 2 buildings that are abandoned if anyone's in the area. They're making quick progress on it tho.
