So I usually do most of my exploring in the Northern Maryland/Southern Pennsylvania area, but as it seems like I'm running out of places I haven't been, I'm trying to expand my traveling distance a bit. That puts Philadelphia in range, and I've already marked some cool spot that I'd love to check out. Problem is, I've been without an exploring partner since last summer, and a lot of these places seem like ones where it's best to have someone watching your back. It'd be awesome to explore with some folks on here in the Philadelphia area, so feel free to drop me a message if anyone is down. P.S.: I'm not a serial killer, I promise.

I highly recommend some of the old cemeteries in Philly and the surrounding areas. Although in the summer it's hard to see the angel statues and such, underneath all the growth and vines.

Philly has been on my radar for awhile! Did you make it down? It'd be a big trip for me but looks so worth it.

I've been up to the Philadelphia suburbs once to scout some places, but no successes yet. I'm still looking for someone to come along and watch my back for some of the bigger, more deathtrap-esque places I've mapped (*cough*powerplants*cough*).

The Art Deco Chester Power Station was converted to offices in 2004 but it still retains a completely intact control room which is still on display as far I know. Many other relics were saved as well including those huge brass doors used in the movie 12 Monkeys.

Yeah, unfortunately I missed out on that one long before I got into exploring. There are three others I've got in mind, though.

The control room alone is worth it. This was the East Coast flag ship station. No expense was spared. When I said Art Deco, no joke, throughout the whole station. At the wall corners it has rounded tiles, and it's huge. If you're going by it, it's worth a quick stop; it's gorgeous. Bare in mind Chester probably still has an active smart cam network. It tagged me in 2004 I think it was. Do not take pics of the prison on Morton Ave and Hwy 13; they'll come after you.

This is me - I'm originally from the area, and coming back to town for a few days soon, and realizing I could totally do some exploring with my free time. I'd probably prefer to go with others.
Driving from Atlanta to Dallas 6/6 - 6/14, from Dallas to Chicago 6/14 - 6/20, from Chicago to Atlanta 6/20 - 6/29 with many stops in between. If you wanna meet up and shoot, drop me a line. |

My advice is going to the naval shipyard on a sunday with bad weather. I don't know if it's still there, but when I went about 6 months ago, the carrier JFK was docked there to be refitted as a museum or something. I could probably have hopped the fence and gone onboard, but I was there for a college conference, so that would have been unwise. There was also a drydock area that was flooded, but the door down into it was open. There were also a few old abandoned warehouses and offices. You should definitely check it out when nobody is there.

I was in Philly exploring last week and scouting out locations. If you'd like to meet up, I'm heading back that way around December 10th. After that, I have nearly every day off of work until New Years Day.

Going on an active Navy ship could end very badly... that's Federal trespassing.

Yeah, I was gonna say, you are gonna get SUPER busted if found on that ship. There are occasional patrols there, as well. No doubt an alarm system, too.
