There's a sensitive location near me that a couple of idiot YouTubers posted videos of that make it dead obvious what the place is, where the place is, and what valuables are still inside. It's small and has been abandoned since 2003, but hasn't been too badly molested until those videos went up, and nearly all of the comments on the videos are people salivating at getting their grubby mitts on everything. A month later and several expensive pieces of equipment have been stolen from the site and there's spraypaint everywhere. I'm not looking forward to seeing how it's deteriorated further since then.

My favorite abandonment recently became a brewery. I'm okay with that. I used to bring a beer or two there during explores.

Two can keep a secret if one of them is dead?

Kay, that's just awesome.

I know this is a bit tin-foil-hat-y, but I wonder if some of the arson cases of abandonments are just a case of the property owner and shady insurance scams. At least in the bay area, the idea has floated more than once that rent controlled apartments have had suspicious fires that end up benefiting the landlord. It doesnt seem like much of a stretch for the same to happen to neglected properties.

This makes me so angry! People have no respect. Probably a bunch of idiots who were bored. All that history lost

You learn pretty quickly when you start doing urbex that you really cannot trust anyone. Even people you think are your friends.

It seems like a good time to resurface this document. These ideas are still closely followed by many in the MSP community, but the concepts can be applied to other exploring scenes as well. I recommend everyone gives it a read at some point. https://drive.goog...MvnNPnl6aGio1R-ySC

This is one of the best documents I've seen that gets across solid exploring ethics. Clearly it's been floating around awhile. Thank you for resurfacing this, NotQuiteHuman!

Ha, true that

I feel that pain, we had a huge dirt pit with all sorts of abandoned cars and stuff that we showed to some idiot friends that went out and started shooting stuff out there, so next time we showed up to just be harmless and mud the police were there within 10 minutes. The only people to show locations are family and the guy who's going to explore it with you lol

I remember reading that a while ago, thank you for resurfacing it again haha. It truly is a really good document for explaining proper exploring habits.

Posted by Dan Lee So I had just learned about an abandoned house that was on a well known 'urban legend' road in my area and made plans to check it out at some point this week as it was only a quick drive. I never got the chance. The local news ran an article the beginning of this week about the house and the vandalism that has been happening to it. The day after that article went public, the house burned to the ground. Coincidence? Maybe. They do not have an exact cause of the fire, so who knows what could've happened. Now do I fault the news for giving away where it was? Not entirely, but it just goes to show how fast things can happen when info makes it's way into the wrong hands.

Something like this happened to me. A couple years ago I learned about a plantation estate at the Arabi/Chalmette line, that had been located next door to a dock I used to drop somebody off at for work. But, I'd learned about it only weeks after it was burned down.
