So I had just learned about an abandoned house that was on a well known 'urban legend' road in my area and made plans to check it out at some point this week as it was only a quick drive. I never got the chance. The local news ran an article the beginning of this week about the house and the vandalism that has been happening to it. The day after that article went public, the house burned to the ground. Coincidence? Maybe. They do not have an exact cause of the fire, so who knows what could've happened. Now do I fault the news for giving away where it was? Not entirely, but it just goes to show how fast things can happen when info makes it's way into the wrong hands. 1.
Attached is a picture of what is left of the house that I took yesterday when I went out there.

Yeah, once I started exploring it was easy to see how fast a location can go bad once too many people find out. It's really unfortunate.

I once shared a location with a guy who was getting into photography and who I thought I could trust to keep it a secret. He ended up hosting a party there and the people wound up smashing everything in the house and piling up the furniture in a bonfire. Everything was destroyed. I learned a lot from that.

Dang, that sucks. I always wonder if vandals ever realize that they're ruining the fun for everyone else, but I figure some people are inconsiderate enough not to care.

Yes time and experience tells you exactly what you can and should post or share to what you would like to. sad but true, when the foot fall of people going through a place increases so does the damage and the chance of fire.

It definitely does seem to be occurring more. It's always a tragedy to see or hear about what a place used to be like only to end up walking through the ashes of the past. When will people learn..?

Best thing to do is get a few people you can trust and keep things to yourself. Once a place gets out, a horde of the same 200 Instagram explorers will ravage it until it's destroyed, locked up, or vandalized.

Happened to an asylum near me, luckily the place didn't burn down. But it now has way more security measures making it difficult to get in.

I once took a good friend to a spot. He wasn't a problem at all but he then mentioned the place to his brother who subsequently went back with his friends and scrapped it bare. The place was a dirty mess after that.

A location near me was cool because of all the graffiti art on the walls of this narrow canyon, but it became a popular place for high-schoolers to hike with their friends, so the city made it an official trail and washed off all the paint. Not as bad as an arson, for sure, but now a cool spot is just a canyon hike with parking and a trail.
