I second Google Earth Pro. It has many useful tools that the new web based version doesn't have, such as time travel. It also allows you to add notes and images to locations.

Granted, you can do that in My Maps as well, minus the time travel bit (which is useful- but only to a point, since image quality drastically decreases the further back you go), and My Maps is much more lightweight for mobile access.

That's true. We use Google My Maps for a Christmas lighting community. It's convenient how it syncs with Google Maps on iPhone.

I use Map Plus (iOS). It's like google mymaps but better (and you can import all of your google maps and just about any other map into the program). It's by far the best I've found so far. The only disadvantage is that there is a bit of a learning curve. I still don't know half of what this app can do.

I don't know if it is offered for android or not, all my stuff is apple.

Edit: Perhaps the greatest advantage of this app is that there is no size limit. Mymaps only allows 2,000 points per layer. If I hit a limitation on one of the google map programs, I just transfer the map to here and I can see the whole thing.

I use Sheets, with a map of the area on another tab with dots colored by To Do/Done. I also keep notes on accessibility and how much of a drag it would be to get to.

I'm working on becoming a behavior analyst, so spreadsheets, graphing, and organizing observations is kinda my life, lol

I started with just a list on my phone but then spent a few days painstakingly adding each one to a google my map. It's not very good in the my maps website itself but if you open it in regular google maps then you can scroll around and click on the places like normal, but it's much faster. You can also open it on your phone that way in the google maps app. Aran, not sure if anyone answered your question about the sidebar but it looks like he was in google maps when he took that ss. You just hit the little arrow on the left.
