Exhibit A
Main room. This was a water treatment facility pump station. You might be able to see the shafts completely seals with steel plates.
In the side room next to some kind of sifting machine. These gears appeared to open a sluice gate some 30 ft below us. We didn't fuck with it.
Complicated system that I wish I could really appreciate
Second floor with steep ladder. Housed some more electrical equipment.
Opened one of the doors that faced to the outside (not visible as it is covered by welded steel plates) Needless to say, we left shortly after we saw this sign. Though our visit was at least 45 minutes.
Bonus exploring a facility abandoned in 06
Due to the flooded basement there was an unreal amount of fungus and moisture inside. Some rooms has thick air. We didn't stay long as we didn't have any respirators except a thick cloth over our mouths.

Looks like a good outing. Exhibit A has changed dramatically in the last couple years. Looks like they cleared out some of the fallen trees when they put up the plates. How was the water level in the lower stairwell? There used to be this sign on the exterior, you may recognize it from my avatar.
Used to look a little more organized in there as well.
Those last two shots from the same general location?

That's awesome to see. I instantly recognized the sign (its still there) from your avatar pic. Guess its memorable. The lower level was totally flooded. No idea how deep it was as the ladder down looked very rusty. Looked more like a maintenance shaft than a floor. Yep, the last two shots are from the same general area.

There wasn't much of a basement. There was a couple shafts that led down to a lower level that was completely flooded. One (larger) shaft was welded shut.

I just realized in your picture that there is a stairwell with the yellow railing! There was no way to get down there as there was a large steel plate sealing the way down. I might need to go back to see if I can get in!

That stairwell has been flooded out since the first time I visited that site a couple years ago. Makes sense they'd seal it up I guess. We tried making a visit there during times of low river levels and found it more flooded than previously!

I believe this could be arranged.

I think this place, like many, just deteriorated over time. Kinda like MagCan. Probably amazing ten years ago (though with fewer nat gas turbines). Partially due to natural forces (rust, flooding), partially due to heavy explorer / graffiti etc. traffic. Which then leads to more fences, motion sensors, locks, and welded plates, if the land owners care at all any more.

Woah that’s crazy! A few storeys! Wonder why they needed access that deep. What can you do from that far underground that you can’t do with a long shaft or valve?

Edmonton has many tunnels going under the river, this building seems to be just a filter for the industrial water intake.

I am blown away and a little saddened. That's an impressive area I wont get the chance to see. Unless one of those other shafts leads to that stairwell. Edit: My buddy and I decided to go back in about a week or two after the weather clears up to see if we can somehow access the lower levels through one of the other shafts.

Unless things have changed drastically since last year, you'll need scuba gear to explore the lower levels.
