A couple days ago, a friend and I went to check out an abandoned Substation in Chicago. Really cool looking place, it was a lot bigger than I was expecting it to be. I was honestly not expecting to ever come and check this place out, but we did it!
Some things about this place, it's very dark and dusty. The place is falling apart BADLY. I did not trust the roof, but my friend had me come up, and that ladder freaked me out. There were these giant holes in the floor that all led to the basement. The basement is flooded and it seemed to be frozen over too but it was a warm day so we avoided it. In some areas, the ceilings were really low, like just at 6 feet tall.

Sweet place. Word of wisdom, don't let peer pressure rope you into doing something you're uncomfortable with. UE as a larger hobby is one thing, but how you respond to specific situations is what defines your exploring style and your.. survival rate  so far you're at 100%, but you're wise to constantly scrutinize the locations you find yourself in.
My group uses the jury rule. If a decision isn't unanimous, it doesn't happen. If one person is uncomfortable, we all need to respond appropriately. No one pushes the envelope, that's how regrets are born. If you didn't want to climb on that roof, that's that. If you change your mind, fine, be safe. But if someone else tries to change your mind, that's no good.
Anyway, sorry to blackhawk on you, this is a cool place! Do you guys do a lot of running around the Chicago area?

The roof wasn't that bad actually. I was just a little freaked out by the chunks of brick and debris that fell of the building. It surely wasn't the most frightening place I've been to either, but it's not in the safest neighborhood.
We do some exploring in the city but it's difficult for us since my friends all go to different colleges and for me, I'm in the city. The college friends I've made are too scared to come explore with me so I rely on my friends from home to come with. We haven't hit too many spots, but I hope I find out about some more. There's some I'd like to check out like the TV Plant and the EMC but I don't know the status of them. And we always rely on the buses and trains to get around.
