Hello everyone, I wanted to meet other fellow explorers. I am open to meeting others from nearby (e.g. San Antonio, Austin, Dallas and anything in between) at either a coffee shop/bar or something. Feel free to respond or reach out.

Hello im a urbex explorer in the dallas area. What city would the meet be in?
| |
It helps greatly to establish yourself here first. Personally I meet only after I know someone well on here, talk on the phone... and even then that's rare. You are off to an atypical start here... and your poll didn't list my favorite response, No! We like pictures...

Your discouragement is not appreciated. As a Houston explorer this was and likely still is 100% the best way to approach this. Even if they dont get a response with "yes I want a meetup" they are establishing where they are from and that they are willing to meet other people from various parts of the state.

I am from Austin and have been looking forward to meeting people. Depending on the location and date I would definitely be game to attend a meet up!

I understand, and even if this post didn't get me an actual meeting due to the reasons you mentioned, I figured I could at least get more information as to what I need to proceed further. I am not trying to ask for any locations or beg for access to anything special. As far as the poll not having your favorite response, well, that was just an accident and once I submitted it I couldn't edit. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I couldn't think of any better way to approach this, so i'm glad someone chimed in with this comment.

Awesome! I don't have any experience hosting a meetup, of any kind much less a UA Meetup. So we can see if anyone else chimes in, otherwise we play it by ear.

So a few things happened last night. I did go and scope a lumber mill up north of me. According to Google it is closed, Permanently. And so I went to verify, had to drive an hour there, and as it turns out, it does not look closed down and has a security guard posted at the front gate. So that was a bit of a bummer.
Also, I remembered that I have some photos of an old railroad car I went and checked out recently. But it's not abandoned, in fact its open to the public as a historical monument. Hence why I didn't plan on posting those.

When you splore with a stranger you add an eXtra element of uncertainty. This applies more so with new members but even long time FMs aren't exempt. You know what you'll do, but not them. Years back a well known FM invited me to a great spot but they seemed too wild to me and declined the offer. The same FM was latter PBed apparently over an arson at another site. People are trouble... you can only expect someone to be themselves. You got that right; begging is very frowned on here. It happens a lot. PMs are best for site specific questions. Again establishing yourself here first helps as you are a somewhat known quantity then. Yeah the poll feature has that annoying trait that it can't be modified after the post by the OP Really the -best- thing to do is find/shoot a site(s) and post a thread(s). Sites are everywhere, just exercise caution on private land or ask permission. Use your initiative. Just do it. Perceived danger sells, as does adding site history if possible without endangering the site. Interior shoots are best, and high places tend to attract attention here. Good photos help a lot; post keepers be it art or documentary style images. For questions the Rookies forum is a safe place to ask if you can't find the answer by reading it in an already existing thread. A local meet up can work to your advantage especially if a Mod is present. Most FMs though got jumped in simply by posting good threads online. There are meet ups in Texas occasionally and elsewhere if you want to travel, either listed in the regional board or here: https://www.uer.ca/events/ Be patient and participate regularly here. Read all the pin ups and as many threads as possibly to better understand the culture here. If your posts and threads are sound in time you will make friends here. Invites will follow. We are all misfits here of one kind... or another. Perfection isn't expected but a reasonable effort is.

Not sure where else to post this, but I did want to put out an invitation for this Saturday (Tomorrow). I'm going to go explore a location around here, and I'm very excited!!! So if anyone that can meet around Houston tomorrow is interested, feel free to reach out. Otherwise, if all goes well, expect a thread with loads of pictures!! Take care and be safe out there.
