For those who aren't familiar with this place, a brief background. Dorea opened up some time in the 1950s although this can not be verified and closed it's doors around 1995. There was originally around 11 buildings on the campus including a Catholic church which came down during the ice storm of 1998. Dorea was used to house, educate orphans that were mislabeled as insane. This was part of a political scheme between the Duplesis government and the Catholic church. They would relabel orphans as insane in order to appropriate more money from the federal government. Today, many of these institutions have been closed or renamed since the scandal came to light. Fast forward to more recently and the dorea property is now owned by a small real estate company. On the 1st of October 2017 a fire leveled 2 of the buildings. A few months back the city of Franklin gave the owners an ultimatum to either sell the property or demolish it. Recently I went to visit the site to see if it's been demolished and it appears that aside from the 2 buildings taken down by fire there is one in the back that has been taken down.

You really should, especially with the risk of it being demolished. Just make sure you have a spare 200 dollars, which is the fine there for being caught. I've been 3 times though and haven't had issues. Hit me up if you want some company 😊

I'm glad the main building are still intact. But seeing how the laws are becoming stricter for abandoned building, it wont be long before it will either be fenced or taken down. At least I had the chance to visit the place.

cool once it gets warmer for sure...I am guessing being discreet and parking far enough away should help a lot

It's difficult. The road is a 2 way with not much of a shoulder. Much easier without snow. The nearest road leads to the border to the USA and the next is kms away. I've seen younger guys drive right up into the property and park behind the buildings. For me, I'm lucky cause I have a company work truck so I don't look so suspicious lol.

yea sounds complicated unless you want to walk for hours loll parking behind the building sounds like a 50/50 risk before the snow goes away maybe i should scout the area to see best options?

If you're not too far, why not? You can pull over, it's semi residential so cars aren't flying by. I just wouldn't recommend it for extended time. Takes a good hour if not more to explore the whole place. In the summer there's plenty of little places on the grass to park but that also makes you a target. Just remember Price for getting caught is 200. Lol. I'd say if you can find someone to drop you off and pick you up a while after, would be ideal. Definitely go with at least one other person though. Place isn't super safe, basement is flooded etc.

I guess I was lucky that day. I just parked off the side of the road where the the house are. But I would not recommend doing that now, could be risky.

Had a blast at that location, was sad to see that back storage building and the dorm one go down. We should definitely go back when the snow clears up again!

Honestly those buildings were great! Those chairs under the open roof. Fantastic. Always down to go!

Neat! The contrast between the black abyss and brightly colored doors in your third images is a great composition. Also, thank you for the history, it adds some great context.

Dude that's awesome. But where did that piano come from? Lol

The picture of the piano was taken when? I've been there 4 years ago and the police came to us. I just got the stable on picture.
